Happy to see magsafe coming back to the MacBooks. I have an older MacBook Pro (circa late 2013) with Magsafe and it's been a great plug. Just get it close and it auto snaps right into place, and trip over the cable and it unplugs itself.
The new M1 and upcoming M2 based Apple products are pretty darn amazing. I'm currently responding to this thread on my 2020 Mac M1 Mini, which is dead silent, and usually consumes less than 10 watts of power. But yet it's amazingly fast with everything that I throw at it. My daughter has a new M1 based MacBook Air and again it's silent and the battery lasts like 16 hours. She only charges that thing every few days.

I've never been much of an apple user. I'm not a fan of the iPhone and prefer Android and have always had Android. I did like the appleTV box (but hated the remote). The iPad is solid.
However, at work I support enterprise servers that run Linux and the underpinnings of Mac OSX are very similar. I was very impressed with the new MacBook Air that we bought my daughter.
Instead of buying another MacBook Pro, I instead found a refub 2020 Mac Mini with the M1 and purchased that. From a power and performance standpoint, that little device is amazing. I got an 8GB, 512GB Model for $599.

I'm torn with the Air. As annoyed as I am with Tim Cook's Apple I must confess if you're like a college student roaming campus all day it sure does rule to have a REAL all day battery. On the other hand Louis Rossman points out design flaws on Apple motherboards that Apple is both extremely aware of and utterly uninterested in fixing. The latter is a non-starter for me.
But I am a self-proclaimed Mini PC maniac. So just the idea of a little box like that triggers an irrational joy. I've got a Beelink SER3 Mini PC right now that is just perfect for my needs. It's my 'Roku' if you will, connected to my TV. But since it's a PC too I can do almost anything there. I just recently moved and did GOBS of Zillow, Amazon, and Wayfair there -- on a big screen that the wife can view seated beside me instead of standing over my shoulder.
I got it for $475 but recently it hovered at $435 which is just a crazy deal. Most Minis have loud fans but this one is quiet.
