WD Live Media Player Network no longer seen

Hello All,

I had a WD Live Media Player that worked fine through sharing the folder which allowed me to access images and video from the computer to the TV the media player was plugged into. In Windows 7 it was just a case of sharing the folder. I tried the same thing in Windows 11 and it is not found by the WD player.

Can someone please advise on a way to get this media player to work via Windows 11? Not sure why it is harder to do than previous version of Windows but oh well.

@ OAT - I tried this and was able to see the WD TV Live device. I then went to the TV and WD and it was able to see a portion of the computer. However it does not see the portable hard drive I have attached to the computer that has all the pictures and videos. Do you know how to get it to see the portable hard drive that is attached to the computer?

@ James - I saw this video earlier, but was under the impression that allowing access to the SMB opens the computer up to security issues. In Windows 7 it was just a case of right clicking the portable hard drive attached to the computer (the one with the pictures and videos) and making it shared. I am not sure why it is so hard now...

You need to right click on that drive from explorer and share the drive.
That is:
Right click\Properties\Sharing\Advanced sharing\check mark on Share this folder\Apply

Please make sure that under
Settings/System/Nearby sharing is on

Pertaining to security; it is SMBv1 which was a security risk (ransomware), therefore it has been removed from default installations.

@OAT - yes, I did that already. I shared it and it has the small green arrow showing it is shared. I also gave full permissions to the WD Live device. Still not showing up in the WD device "Windows Shared" Area or through "Media Devices"

I am not a WD live Media player user.

Refresh the page, it's fixed.

I was able to get the WD Live player to see the main computer and the Videos folder on the C: Drive - but still cannot get it to find the USB attached portable drive that has all the movies on it. Any thoughts on how to get it to see that?

They’ve made it much harder In windows 11

I don't know what to tell you.
I just plugged in my USB drive on my remote PC. Made it a share and I can see it from my main machine.
Do you see it in Explorer?
