Gee.,.. the motherboard seems to be crapping out on my PC.. so.. next month new motherboard day.

I took it to my local shop and he confirmed it's likely the motherboard

Ahh that sucks man

ah well atleast you're new cpu will be even sweeter on its new mobo! Sucks that it die ofc but atleast there's a positive overall.

A motherboard that is less than 4 1/2 years old (I figure from the BIOS listings at Asus) that is failing? Poor.

Maybe a B550 board as a replacement? I see that Newegg has some at $100 and less. AMD Motherboards | Newegg

That or a B450M.. not sure but I have time to decide. I just want to keep it under 100.
Oh and the guy at the shop said my graphic card needs a bigger motherboard? It worked just fine on the B450 Micro ATX

Graphics cards are usually only a problem to the motherboard if it is a dual slot graphics card (or a 1.5 slot or a 2.5 slot graphics card ...). Dual slot cards are twice the thickness of a standard graphics cards which can mean, when inserted into the PCIe slot, it's instillation blocks the use of other slots on the motherboard. Certainly this would be a consideration for smaller motherboards.
The other consideration is long graphics cards. A long graphics card wont fit in a micro ATX case. Usually this is only a problem if the card is over 280 mm, as 280 mm is longer than the motherboard.
If your card works well on your existing mATX mobo, then I do not see why you were offered that advise at the shop.

The case is large enough for the card and the only issue I could tell is he thought my motherboard was 'cheap' and too small to work on. I had no issue installing the graphic card so I'm getting the same size motherboard the next time.. Nov.

I don't expect many issues.. the issue was odd but it came down to the last part and that was the motherboard.

Issue.. the PC would start but the display/monitor would stay black.. no message or error code. He got it to work one time but then he messed with it more and he couldn't get a display again.

Yup for sure, I noticed this when i went from my old 1060 6gb to a 3 fan 2070super, was surprised how massive it was and the worst is, there's bigger cards available xD!

The board I was using for W10 insider crapped out a year ago, all solid capacitors, AM3+ and also Asus. I was lucky to get the replacement AM4 system to activate Windows, Microsoft just asked if my hardware had changed. Doubly lucky, as my low end system qualified for W11 purely by chance. I bought the motherboard and cpu combo on ebay and the shop selling it asked me if I would like to change the ordered A8-9600 for an Athlon 3000G which suited me as it was lower power. I am now running Asrock, Gigabyte and MSI based pc's but no Asus.

That sucks BunnyJ. I have been using ASUS motherboards for a very long time. My wife is still rocking my old i5 6600K on an ASUS TUF sabertooth Z170 board. Hope you get sorted out soon.

Well.. next Friday I can order it and then I should have it by Tuesday or so. My plan is to run 10 for a bit then upgrade to 11..

Oh and when I get it working I'll stop getting new parts..

Hey i was running a 6600k until last year on a z170a board too! Ran solid for years

It went to a new home so im glad it didn't die xD

Get it from ASUS or Newegg. Why, because they are shipped and sold by ASUS or Newegg.
If you look on Amazon, it's sold by some hole in the wall company... not by Amazon.

Actually, B&H Photo is probably OK as well. I've dealt with them before and had no problems what so ever.
Definitely stay away from Adorama, and Walmart doesn't really "ship" things properly.

IF you have a Micro Center near you, that's the BEST option there is for motherboard/CPU purchases.
