Hello, I upgraded my PC to WIn 11 yesterday
We are in February 2023 and it worked rather well. It also worked several months ago but I got BSODs afterwards.
I had to reinstall windows 10 from scratch in the end..
This time, at first, I cloned my SSD disk, swaped the disks, uninstalled as much Windows 10 updates as possible, and uninstalled the security suite too, before launching the upgrade. I also made space on the C: disk partition.

So, did you installed some android apps for ex?
I'm not very interested in the issues you faced, but in what you enjoy with WIndows 11, which pluses you actually got.
Thank you.

I have a small problem with my K400+ Logitech keaybord. sometimes, fo some mysterious reasons I type and nothing appears on the screen. th oiuse keps working. If somone knows, thanks.

I'm somewhat impressed with Windows 11's performance, but that's about it!
Everything else is pretty much half baked still. Course, I'm on a Dev Build so, that goes without saying!

I'm not impressed with In-built or Store apps but, 3rd party apps work okay.

I am totally on par with Edwin's statement, and am also on Dev build.
I do like the look of it and the performance as well but there are things I do not quite understand:

-There seems to be so much wasted time on gimmicks by MS whilst Control Panel Settings conversion are
still being developped.
-Search and weather on the taskbar seem to be getting too much attention and changes.
-Stickers!!??? Please, who is the audience for that?

I am showing my age I know but I like efficiency and performance, so smash the bugs and forget silly nail polish.

PS: That is my opinion only.

I suspect all the Apply Lipstick to the Pig maneuvers are just stall tactics to keep people interested, while they try to figure out how they're gonna make this dream of theirs work properly! 🤷‍♂️

I made the move to take advantage of the (reported) enhanced security, especially on new tech that can benefit from it. It's been a month and no ransomware, so I guess it's working! 😜
I also like the speed.
Functionally, I find Windows 11 to just be Windows 10 with a more drab and less functional graphical user interface.

Until recently I would say that 11 is by far the strongest windows ver. But, there have been a few minor issues which, so far, are unexplained. I am not sure I can even give details.

I have two machines and I feel that Windows 11 is definitely more stable than previous versions. I have had Windows all the way from XP, Vista, Windows 7, 8.1, 10 and now 11 so I feel able to compare them. Others may have had a different experience but that's par for the course.

I also agree that it seems faster. I never buy top spec machines for what I do (Browsing, emails, documents etc.) so I feel my speed comparison is a valid one.

Oh noes... I may be switching to the dark side.

Just now, switching from Win 11 back to Windows 10... I felt... a sadness. Like I regretted having to go back to Windows 10.
I think Win 11 is finally becoming more stable than Windows 10, at least on my installs.

I also like the Win 11 scrollbars (set at -330 in the registry), better than the Win 10 scrollbars.

Really, the only thing I don't like is the systray clock being misaligned when the Taskbar is set to small icons.
I also HATE the stupid notification and focus stuff mixed in with the Calendar.

Oh yeah... I hate all the "junk" MS put on the Start Menu and the Taskbar search window. :/

On a side note: Setting the scrollbar height and width in Windows 10 to -180, is approx. the same as -330 in Win 11.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

Or, in Winaero Tweaker numbers... default in Win10/Win11 is 17.
In Win 11, I chose 22, in Win 10, I chose 12. Now they are both about the same width.

I've worked in the ICT industry for so long now, that the release of a new windows does not excite me.
I always upgrade reasonably quickly after release and do run the most stable pre release version, (I do not worry about the latest development releases, been there, done that, got the T-shirt,[and sold it on too  ]

I find 11 stable on the two systems in my specs and the range of external hardware I interface with which is all I expect, [my internal and external hardware is current or reasonably close to current. so I would expect the OS to cope, which it does]

I can agree with that.

Before I retired (2011) I worked for the same company for 35 years (100% government contracts) and worked with computers all that time (Unix and PC). During that time, due to software and government requirements, it was required that all of the computers be within 30 days of the latest update/patch level (remember when a patch was a patch?).

The software we used was very expensive and we paid extra for 24 hour bug support ($100,000 per year). But, if the software release was a version behind, or the OS release was too old, they would refuse to fix the issue. They would tell us to update all the software and get back to them. They didn't want to chase problems that might have already been addressed in new versions.

I just got use to everything being on the latest releases. So I like the fact that all the updates are free, easy to get, and easy to install. I especially like the fact that security updates are downloaded and installed automatically every single day. That's about as up to date as you can get.

Hi, thanks, very interesting.
My experience, although very fresh: I had been kind of traumatized by the failure of the update I made a few months ago. BSOD, no solutions and I ended reinstalling Windows 10 from scratch.
But that happens a lot when you install a new version "'too soon" I'd say. When is that not "to soon" ? Hard to guess :)
My experience with computers and Windows, more than 15 years, is that every time a newer version of Windows comes out it's the same story.
According to what I read, It seems that they released it a little to fast. I also read that Windows 11 is very focused on security, and that it s the main concern and focus.
This time I must say that I am rather pleasantly surprised.
I hate, too, the button on the left of taskbar leading to the news in Edge browser. I looked at it a little. You can't even put the articles in reader mode! Logical, they have to sell their ads.
I simply disabled this button, and voila. I personally never use Edge.
Otherwise, honestly, yes, I am pleasantly surprised by Windows 11 as it is now.
My laptop may be a little bit slower. To overcome it I deactivated certain Windows graphic effects and that suits me well. Honestly I think I will stay on Win 11 on this computer. (13" laptop, Acer Swift 3, Ryzen 5 12 Go RAM)

Except for it being a newer OS, I don't see any earth shattering benefits between Windows 10 and 11. I do have to admit that I've become so accustomed to Windows 11 that I feel sort of lost when I use Windows 10.

Main dislikes - pathetic, puerile, asisine, useless emojis.
Next worst - useless, annoying, overated widgets.

The key thing is W11cis being developed W10 is stagnant and boring.

:): ) :)

if I may, I want to give a piece of advise. I've recently done something extremely useful.
I was, for years, waiting to do it, some day, later, in the future. Because it looks complicated. etc, like many people. I'm using now, since about 2 months, a password manager. I chose Bitwarden. I wish I did it much earlier! Bitwarden is an amazing changing Internet life tool.
I'm not working for them. If you look around, like I did, what people say about it you will understand what I'm talking about. It's super.

Short story: the Pros beat the Cons and the improvements are noticeable (both looks but also functionality).

Last but not least - it's the future. And fortunately, it wasn't a Windows Vista or Windows 8 type of transaction - more like Windows 7 or Windows 10 - so the switch to Windows 11 was quite easy to make (getting used too). One could say - Microsoft learned from past mistakes... for a change. Even tho, they're still trying to push - their proprietary or partnership bloatware, at least - this time around - they're not doing at the expense of functionality (& up in your face). Not to mention - most of that stuff can be disabled. Also, as i keep saying - Windows 11 is more like a feature pack update. So was Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1 and so on and forth. If anything - would be more reasonable to be called Windows 7 Service Pack 3. This is definitely not a New Operating System (made from scratch). But hey, it's a business. And that's the only reason they call it a new OS - aka - billions of $ business (from making new licenses contracts with every big OEM like Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, etc). Even if this days - it's not their biggest source of revenue (or even 2nd or 3rd for that matter) - it's still in the billions of $ range (it's still a cow worth milking).

Totally uninterested in password managers - I use the best one there is - "my brain".

All right,
you know, my brain is working fine, too, but I can now use it for more interesting things. my surf became faster and I got rid of a chore that was also really inefficient on the question of security. I have now a strong, long and unique password for each site! which is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to do without a PM. IMPOSSIBLE.
I only have to type one password when I launch my browser.
BW is absolutely FREE. ($10/year if you want to modify the password and other things). It sounds maybe like an ad, sorry.
I have zero interests in that company. I say that to help, nothing more, and if you look on the web you'll see that I'm not the only one. But it s true that we are not on "password managers forum", I know :)

I generally like the way Windows 11 behaves and runs quite well, and better than Windows 10. But I'm not a desktop/explorer OCD tweaker, either. I just learned today that you cannot launch a 2nd instance (separate window) of Terminal inside Terminal itself on Windows 10 (works fine in 11, using wt.exe as input or through the Start menu). Intel Unison finally lets Windows PCs (11 only) interact reasonably with iPhones. Here's a Gizmodo story that explains some other differences (some I don't care about much, tho...) 11 Things You Can Do in Windows 11 That You Couldn't Do Before

I like that the taskbar now sits at the center and Win 11 is basically Win 10 under the hood (a good thing IMO)
