What is new in Microsoft Forms for December 2022

We are excited to introduce you to some new features we are going to release shortly! Form design experience is modified to help you create an attractive form more easily and we also made some changes in distribution to meet more complex and tricky scenarios. Besides, we launched several new polls in Teams, which may help you improve engagement in meetings and raise audience interaction. Now, let’s dive into the new features!

Facelift your survey and engage with audience through thousands cover page theme

When you need to design a customer satisfaction survey, registration form and other types of form, you must worry about how to raise the response rate. Why not try to add an appealing cover page to your form! With our new cover page feature, you can create an attractive cover with just a few clicks and make it fit all distribution channels.
  • Cover page template

If you create your form for a specific scenario such as holiday party invitation, post-event feedback survey or Engagement related surveys, system will provide you a set of predefined cover page automatically based on relevancy of the topic and hopefully save your time searching and navigating. There are different types of templates for the cover page that will be shown on the side theme pane

  • Theme suggestion

Have you ever thought there is a collection of nicely rendered edgy backgrounds to improve responder engagement in one click? Now it’s available on MS Forms! We are excited to share that animate live theme is now 100% LIVE! A set of elaborate live themes will be recommended to you based on the topic of your form.

Distribute your form to multiple channels with adaptive view

To provide an easy and quick way for designers to make an attractive invitation message on different channels for different sending intentions, we updated the distribution feature of Forms. Users would have advanced distribution experience when sending out form/quiz online and offline to responders.
  • Distribute form in Outlook

When you send your form/quiz through Outlook, what the form looks like is shown below. A cover page you added to the form will also be displayed in the email.

  • Send form/quiz to external users

Still get stuck when you choose anyone can respond and try to send forms to people outside the organization? That’s not a problem anymore! With the new distribution feature, you can now search/enter both internal and external email addresses and send the form/quiz to them.
  • New QR code experience

If you want to send your form offline to collect response, a downloadable fancy QR code will generate (if you choose cover for your form) to make your opinion come true and higher the response rate in the meantime.

More question type: Image choice questions

For form and quiz users, inserting image as choice is a long-expected feature. Today, we are excited to announce that you can now add image as answer in Microsoft Forms. Starting from December, it will be gradually rolling out globally, hope this new feature can provide assistance when it's available to you.

Forms in Excel

When you open response in Excel, a summary of your form’s response will be shown as below. And syncing data automatically to excel is now available in Microsoft Forms. You don’t need to download another excel file when new responses are coming in. On the right-side pane, chart suggestions will be provided to better interpret the response. Besides, you can now easily draft a form in Excel spreadsheet and convert it into Microsoft Forms web with several clicks.

Polls app in Teams to raise your engagement with audience

We also launched three new types of polls in Teams meeting and enabled polls in channel meeting.
  • Instant poll

Instant poll is pre-defined binary option pairs (Yes/No, Thumb up/down, Heart/Broken heart) in Polls side pane during the meeting. With a single click on the given option pairs, the presenter/organizer can launch a binary poll (without question title) instantly. The attendees can vote for their opinions by clicking the option button without the extra ‘submit’ action.

  • Support image in polls

Now you can insert an image in a poll, to better describe your question and give responders more information. With an image in the poll, we hope it can help you to:
  • Engage with audience in visualized way – use image to make polls interesting and fun.
  • Better explain a complex concept – using an image as part of the question like math diagrams or the design proposals.

  • Multi-question polls

To further scale Polls capabilities by supporting multiple polls launched at the same time, it improves efficiency and enriches the meeting participants accommodate occasions which more inputs need to be collected from the meeting participants. It can be used for various purposes – serving a mini-survey like poll with a rating and open-text (aka. word cloud) for in-session feedbacks.
