Hi, it's almost two weeks testing this, same problem.

I'm still figuring out what's going on but here are my findings:

First you need to install Windows 11 22H2, run updates and then update all apps into Microsoft Store library, with that WhatsApp desktop will work. I used to remove all Microsoft Store bloatware and then is where problems occur.

Removing everything I need (help, opinions, xbox, facebook, office stuff and more) makes WhatsApp desktop to stop working BUT when I reinstall Windows Mail app, WhatsApp comes back to life.

My theory is: WhatsApp is trying to access Windows contacts, unable to do the app refuses to start.

There is an included app called People which also do the same and Windows Mail contacts. I'll reinstall Windows 11 and de-bloat without touching this app. If I'm able to reproduce the solution again will update this post.

Cheers!

I assume that you have WhatsApp on your smartphone before you install it on your Windows computer. It uses WhatsApp Contacts from your phone's contacts. It doesn't try to access Windows contacts. If it is not installed on your phone then it wont launch on your computer.

When setting it up on your PC your phone needs to be close by so that you can authorise the connection to your phone's WhatsApp. You can see 'Linked devices' in your phone's WhatsApp settings.

That''s nothing related to phone.

I've reinstalled dozens of times windows 22H2 and when People or Windows Mail are removed, WhatsApp refuses to start and show QR.

I'm still testing so I'm sorry to say but your comment is pointless to the problem we're facing.

PS: Happens only on fresh new 22H2 installs.

SOLVED: Dec 2022 solution

Confirmed:

WhatsApp for some reason doesn't show the QR if Windows Mail App isn't installed and get stuck in logo forever.
Dec 2022 solution: Re-Install windows mail app, reboot. Then WhatsApp will show the QR and you'll able to advance.
Only happens on fresh and de-bloated Win 11 22H2 installs.

So, about why WhatsApp behave like this? We haven't access to WhatsApp source code so we can't assure the source of problem. I'm just guessing WhatsApp is looking for something in Windows Mail, may be a shared library or may be something different (Meta looking for data maybe?).

I've tried to debug the app using VisualStudio 2022, but was impossible to me as debug symbols aren't present.

In any case that's how I've made ir, spent two weeks testing. So hope It helps.

Regards.

Hello ivan,
I tried to clean install windows 11 22h2, update everything in windows update and in ms store, NOT debloat win11 apps and then install whatsapp. The result is still the same (stuck at whatsapp logo).
I give up and install windows 10 22h2, update everything and install whatsapp. And now whatsapp stuck too in windows 10. This is strange, because Whatsapp desktop used to work in Windows 10 before. Then I remember that I activate tpm in bios before I install W11 22h2.
So I tried to deactivate tpm in bios, and Whatsapp can launch properly (w10 22h2). To make sure that tpm is the problem, i activate tpm again in bios. the result is whatsapp still can launch properly (not stuck).
So I guess tpm should be deactivate at the first lauch of whatsapp, after that tpm can be activate again.
note: my pc is optiplex 9020

I'm not sure how TPM can influence the problem. This weird behavior I've had were using an old Dell Precision T-1600 (2nd gen Xeon E5) and TPM 1.2. I've disabled enabled and cleared TPM dozens of times without any change and WhatsApp problem were the same. I've also have a MacBook Air with Win11 22h2 doesn't have TPM chip and WhatsApp works without any issue.

Worth to mention I'm patching the Win 11 image using the latest Rufus version, so no effort were needed changing the ISO image.

Guys you're 100% right.

Didn't noted at some point I've disabled TPM on BIOS. I've enabled it and cleared it and problem went back.

I've a non compliant TPM 1.2 module. WhatsApp failed to start when switched to enable TPM, so cleared it using tpm.msc console, rebooted and had WhatsApp back.

I've also removed Microsoft mail and calendar.

What a weird problem, thank you!
