Which Audio Driver should I download?

Searching for the Realtek Audio Components on the MUC I noticed there are multiple entries of the same component with the same version and hardware id's but different update id's. For example the Realtek Software Component 12.106.1087.103 shows 2 entries with different update id's

- d3e7290a-b5c2-4a0d-88c4-37bd42d03fe5
- 43d1d102-1930-47f2-8c49-76daa38ee170

How can I know which update id I need for my Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4 motherboard?

Go To the manufacturers website and find the download page and download the correct driver ( and latest ) for your pc or make an image, go to device manager and uninstall drivers for the device and restart the machine, any problems with that reload the image

I hardly see how a driver from August 2022 (6 months) can be.... "quite outdated" :cautious:

And the driver I pointed to is based on the Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4 you list. I'm not sure what you mean or what "MUC" is?

And actually, I would get the Realtek HD Audio Driver / [6.0.9373.1] / 38.08 MB / 2022/07/25 as they may also contain the support software (control panel). The "DCH drivers" are just the drivers without the package.

Compared to the Realtek Audio versions on MUC (Microsoft Update Catalog), the Gigabyte version is "quite outdated" yes. MUC updates these components way more frequently than Gigabyte.

After installing the manufacturer's audio driver, you should be able to update the components through the MUC afterwards.

For example, the Hardware Support Application component via the MUC installs the latest version of the control panel.

Realize just because there's a new driver, doesn't make it compatible with "your" hardware? And why you should get from Gigabyte.

And BTW, I'm using the same Gigabyte supplied audio driver (6.0.9373.1) for my Z390 board in my system specs and have zero issues.

It seems you are not really informed on how Realtek drivers can be updated through MUC. MUC drivers containing the same hardware ids can be used for your device, after installing the OEM driver first. I have been doing this with my previous PC and never had any problems.

There are even tutorials on how to determine and install compatible updates via MUC on Tenforums.com here and here. It also shows a command prompt to check its compatibility with your device.

Also note the following quote from those tutorials
Since not all manufacturers are offering an updated driver that frequently, users can create their own update packages from the Microsoft Update Catalog. To do that use this very informative post Tutorial for updating DCH/UAD drivers.

They all have the same Supported Hardware ID: swc\ven_10ec&aid_0011 That's the relevant info.

Anyway, if you check: System > Sound > Proprieties - in the upper corner you have the Driver Version (the one currently installed). I'm pretty sure the Driver shown there is: 6.0.XXXX.1

The one you mentioned above: 12.106.1087.103 is a software Component . More exactly: Realtek Audio Effects

Couldn't you just remove the manufacturer drivers and let Microsoft install the drivers and then just update them via Windows update?

Thanks. Yes, I was asking about the components, Audio Effects being one of them. So I take it it doesn't matter which update-id I download?

@pparks1 According to the first Tenforums tutorial in my previous post, you actually need to keep the manufacturer's driver installed to update them. Haven't really tried otherwise though.

It's exactly the same download. Even the same link. It's simply listed multiple times on MUC.

Tho, not sure you can update a software component like that. Even tho, it works for the actual audio driver.

@pparks1 According to the first Tenforums tutorial in my previous post, you actually need to keep the manufacturer's driver installed to update them. Haven't really tried otherwise though.

Yeah, I am not really sure. For me, I build my box and as long as sound is working and I have no audio issues, I don't bother updating drivers here.
The only drivers that I really keep up to date are for my video card, as they are often updated to fix issues in games. Even then, I don't usually update to every new release, just every now and then when I think about it and the newest drivers have been out for a few days.

Begging :lmao: I am merely asking whether the update ids matter to install the MUC drivers, which you apparently have no idea about them even being compatible in the first place, let alone knowing what MUC is.

GPU drivers are indeed more of a priority for me as well. I don't update drivers that frequently either, so when it comes to updating I usually install the most recent ones for all of my device parts.

You're right! Not sure why it's listed multiple times like that. According to the tutorials, after you've installed the manufacturer's DCH driver, you can download the most recent audio software component containing your hardware id via MUC and all 3 components (including the control panel) gets updated.
