Windows 11 Pro
I've been looking at Windows 11 for a while, but the more I see, the more I hate.
I am usually open to change, but not change for the sake of change, and not change that reduces functionality or usability.

I am tending to think that this version of Windows is going to be relegated into the Windows ME, Vista and 8 club.
Microsoft tend to release a bad operating system at times, then follow-up with a good one. It's like history repeating itself.

Anyhow, I have plenty of good system images to return to Windows 10.

Win 11 right now isn't that much different to 10. All the things you see as removed could be in process of redesign, you don't know. Microsoft aren't known for removing features, just look at Word... add more features and let people use them if they want to. I feel file explorer will change more before release, it lacks functions right now.

I have used for a few weeks now and I don't see it as that much different to win 10, you have to look hard to see differences. I can use it for an entire day and only notice its not 10 when i go to shutdown and the menus are in a different spot on start.

Lots of people too ready to write win 11 off as the next Vista, ME, whatever... We shall see.

I'm still running W11 Pro .. seems comfortable for me, even running few 2021 released apps and legacy apps easier .. I don't know why some people dislike W11 ..

I like Win 11 and will keep using it until the "first edition" comes out
by then i hope the Microsoft designers who think they can read our minds
get a new crystal ball. In short i like it but there are too many niggly things.

I'm kind of curious, , what do you hate about 11? You didn't specify why?? Care to expand on that bit?

As for me, I plan on keeping it because I like the fresh new feel to the GUI. Overall, it's the same as 10 but with a new GUI and better security.

i think Win 11 was meant to be released last year, and things happened that meant it was delayed to this year. Last 3 builds of win 10 just been bug fixes, nothing new added. So makes sense to think they had planned to release at end of 2020,
Win 11 looks like a more finished version of 10. They did more work on the multiple desktop feature they had half started in 10, at least it lets multiple desktop wallpapers now. I can always wish it might remember opened applications one day... maybe win 12? :)
Everyone appears to be complaining about features removed. Its not finished yet, wait a few more months and if they still missing, then complain but right now? Its too soon.

Well thought out comment. I do recall reading where MS was discussing about rounding corners etc and now we have it. I suspect COVID did play havoc with the development of the OS and slowed it down.

As for the degraded features and apps ,, well MS is changing the OS and we just have to adapt. None of the features that were lost are coming back and there are nice alternatives to the apps that are going away.

Back in the day when I was a programmer I had to constantly adapt and this is no different.

When it goes final, I'm updating every system I own that can be updated without fail.

The trick is going to see which systems I have that will be included - currently, if every requirement stands, that will be exactly 1 - my desktop.

My newest lapttop has everything except the CPU, which is a 6th gen Intel. Everything else is already too old - and running ChromeOS anyway.

Annoyances and niggles are liveable with, assuming MS don't fix or improve them, Start Menu not bothered about as use Open Shell as never liked Win10s Start Menu and those horrible live tiles have gone anyway which to me is a plus.
Now running 11 on two PCs, the two out of my four that meet the requirements which I will keep 11 on, number three has TPM 2 but as a 6th Generation i7 6700K, unless they decide to allow 7th gen Intel which the motherboard will take, I'm not holding my breath, number 4 is beyond help, AMD Phenom II 1090T X6 just too ancient even though it runs 10 quite well.

I actually think the appearance package on Windows 11 was slated for Windows 10, but instead just went with 11. I think I remember some talk about the next big Win 10 update being an appearance package.

As to this...
Everyone appears to be complaining about features removed. Its not finished yet, wait a few more months and if they still missing, then complain but right now? Its too soon.

I don't see any of those depreciated or removed items sticking around or coming back. I think that's a done deal and Microsoft is just preparing us for the inevitable. No sleep lost here though.

Anyway, I'm definitely sticking with Windows 11. Loving it now (y)

I have used for a few weeks now and I don't see it as that much different to win 10, you have to look hard to see differences. I can use it for an entire day and only notice its not 10 when i go to shutdown and the menus are in a different spot on start.
I agree. There are a few exceptions:

I like File Explorer better without the ribbon (hated it. Switched from Microsoft Office to Libre Office to ditch the ribbon ). I don't like the way "recent apps" are handled. I like them as "Jump Lists" on programs pinned to the task bar. Have absolutely no use for them in the Start Menu.

So far, all of the programs I use seem to work fine, but there may be a few utilities that cause problems. I have 1 of two desktops, 1 of 2 laptops and a mini that are 11 capable. But I can always run VM's on the others.

Really? Then I guess you missed the deprecation thread on this forum and the bunch of the same kind of threads on the Windows 10 forum:
Yeah, well, clearly I didn't miss any of the features they removed. Likely only remove things very few people used. Like being able to move taskbar, I expect they found very few people use feature so why keep it.
I like File Explorer better without the ribbon
I may not miss that but I do miss the menu choices, design might have sucked but its better than nothing completely. Why no alt menu?

So that's your best answer... it doesn't apply to me so it doesn't count?

I am going to keep Windows 11 dev version on both laptop and desktop. I try to keep in mind that they say new things will be added before RTM in October. On the laptop, I'm dual booting with Manjaro Linux, on the desktop Fedora although I'm thinking to using Manjaro there as well. Just finished installing and testing Teamviewer on both machines and it works quite well. Looking into installing the Linux version but that looks pretty tough at the moment.
