OK we had a house fire and now in a hotel at this time we are using phones on metro to get email and other helps but so far no banking
I have to get a new PC but worry that using Google Chrome for the browser may leave us open for security breaches so is windows11 safe enough to use on a open network in a hotel

I don't use Google Chrome/Anything if I can help it but if needing a password to log into a public-accessible Router it should be safe. I haven't had any issue with places I've been, hospitals, doctors/dentists offices, places that have waiting rooms. I use Firefox and have a link for my bank and Domain Host with no issue but they do need a log-in, have found it to be safe. I've noticed a few times reports of what hackers are up to in they tend to go for the more popular/prominent sites or companies.

I'd also check if the Hotel/Motel has the rooms wired for network access, take an Ethernet cable along.

Well I have used hotel wifi literally dozens of times, sometimes for several weeks at a time.

Hotel networks are not open as a rule - you need a password and SSID from reception as a rule.
A good Hotel changes the password quite often, others less so.

Hotels usually use network segregation which means you cannot see other users on the Hotel Network.
It is not like a home lan where you can see all pcs on same subnet.

To add a bit of extra security change your wifi protocol to public rather than private (counter intutive - public means use wifi in a public spot so is stricter on security).

Of course, use good practice e.g. stay online for as short as possible, shutdown pc when not in use etc.

Nobody can 100% guarantee any network is totally safe, but I would say there is more risk on wifi hotspots in cafes, pubs etc.

I guess you have to factor in the quality of the Hotel - a dirt-cheal motel may not have network segregation for example.
You could ask the hotel staff, but I doubt they would understand the question LOL.

I do not know if they have either net yet have to poke around. I did ask and they did say they use it for every thing themselves also I then can assume there open wifi would be OK for the phone correct we do not bank on our phones. And would I do better using won11 browser?

Or, use your cell phone or tablet's wifi hot spot feature. might cost some $ for additional time but cellphone wifi is very secure.

If you have a trusted VPN that would help.
It’s the most common answer when searching for Motel WiFi trust issues.
