My first post on these forums.

I'm just about to rebuild my PC in the next few days, waiting for delivery, new MoBo, CPU, Ram, at the moment my OS is Win 10.

One of the factors for the rebuild is my existing MB and CPU is old and won't upgrade to Win 11.

I'm going to rebuild, use my existing Win 10 OS, resolve any build glitches, clean up my SSDs and then do a full install of Win 11.

But I have a dilemma, for years I have been happily and contented using Live Mail for receiving/sending Emails along with any attachments.

Live Mail is not part of Win 11, Outlook is and I dislike it, it's complicated for me to use, OTT for what I require, simple send and receive.

I think an upgrade to Win 11 includes "Live" but not entirely sure what it is and can I use it to send/receive emails?

Depending where I read, some are saying Live Mail works fine in Win 11 but not sure how as Live Mail is not a stand alone download but came with XP and 10.

What can I use instead of Live Mail, is it possible to preview Live?

Not sure I understand about the Live Mail but to explain what I have encountered since getting Hotmail over 20 years ago was that Microsoft wanted to change to Outlook.com so I got an Outlook.com address which was separate from Hotmail but both ended up merging into Live.com. Going to Hotmail.com or Outlook.com end up at https://outlook.live.com/ for messages to both in one place, it's all Webmail. Confusion has existed in the past between Outlook.com and Microsoft Outlook which installed as part of Microsoft Outlook.

Changes in last several years have somewhat "muddied the waters" with the Mail or Outlook that installs with Windows.

I don't use Hotmail/Outlook/Live much and after changing one critical contact may let them die. For my needs I have better service with the E-Mail provided by my ISP and that provided by my Domain Hosting service which my wife also uses.

If wanting some other installed E-Mail Client I'd go with that provided with the SeaMonkey Browser, Thunderbird, EM Classic or OE Classic.

Live mail was part of Windows Live Essentials which was part of a suite of free programs. Microsoft no longer supports it but it can still be found on other sites. Here's a discussion on the subject. Redirecting

You may just want to use the web base browser mail. https://outlook.live.com

Thankyou, lets see if I can show/explain what I mean, anyone familiar with "Windows Live Mail" will recognise the image, the one below is mine.

In the first masked inbox, ( for privacy reasons ), right window you can see my emails, if I was to click on the seconded masked heading, you would see the same, all my emails received to that address.

So for example, I have three mail accounts, when my email address is asked for I will give for example " it's me at notanotherone.uk," if I want an email sent to another address I will give, " it's me again at notanotherone.uk" and so on.

I let my domain hosting service send my emails to "Windows Live Mail"-- to my email inboxes, I am looking for something that will emulate Windows Live Mail and simple to use.

Windows Wive Wail was a great app, as is Windows Mail.
Windows Mail would be the closest thing really but they are now starting to remove it from Windows 11 as they promised they would. (End date December 2024 but they’ve already started)

I’d hate to say it but Outlook New might be the next simplest program to use. Other free email clients like Thunderbird are a little more involved if you liked the simplicity of Windows Live Mail
Windows Live Mail ceased to be supported in 2017, and although you still may be able to get it to work, there are no security updates for it, so is it worth it?

Thank you and BIB, you are absolutely correct it is not worth it.

I'm just going to have to bite the bullet or at least sink my teeth into a new learning curve and get to grips with OutLook New.

Can I export all my existing Live Mail emails to OutLook New?

Can I still retain my private email accounts and use them in OutLook New, in other words use my existing email names as in my examples above?

Hi, I’m sure someone will answer your questions and if not, I hopefully can after a couple of hours sleep.

It’s actually 3.45am here in the land down blunder. And although I don’t much like sleeping, in the last 10 minutes I’ve walked into 3 walls and stood on a can that I actually didn’t know we had. In fact I may of deliriously walked into somebody else's house. 🙏

Hi, Jay.

I am sorry that nobody stepped in, I am surprised.
Sorry it took so long for me to reply, it's been a busy morning.

‼️ I believe there may be a problem.

To help you properly, I need to know a few things. I will ask you after getting a reply to the issue I found when adding the first email to Outlook (New)

I created 3 test accounts at 3 private domains "jay-test@

I started the process and opened outlook (New)
It asks you to add an account.

Win-1431.png

Outlook (New) asked for the password

Win-1429.png

Then asked for the account provider type (IMAP or POP)

Win-1432.png

This is where it makes me uncomfortable.

Regardless of if you select IMAP or POP, you can expect Microsoft to have access to your email accounts. Meaning your email address needs to sync in Microsoft Cloud, as apposed to a direct connection to your domain hosts webmail server.
What's worse, is that if you chose to enter your email account as IMAP, it takes for granted that you will have to sync with the Microsoft Cloud Server
It warns you with POP it doesn't warn you with IMAP

Win-1430.png

I am personally not comfortable with this. I stopped there.
Maybe you don't mind?

I am not going to continue making screenshots and explaining Outlook (New) until I know how you feel about this.

I am wondering if Thunderbird might be a more viable option?

Note: I have never used Outlook (New) until now. I am only testing so I can better guide you, meaning I am flying blind. Already I don't like what I have found.
I have only ever tried Thunderbird once and recall my testing was interrupted by other worldly matters.
I believe Thunderbird can accommodate both IMAP & POP3 accounts

Further investigation is needed. But if you decided to go with Thunderbird and wanted help, I believe that quite a few members use it so you could create a how do I? thread.

or years I have been happily and contented using Live Mail for receiving/sending Emails along with any attachments.
Giving up my Live Mail was one of the hardest things for me to do. If you do not have access to a full blown version of Outlook (Part of 365 or MS Ofc) Thunderbird would be my suggestion for you as well. The Outlook (new) app (that replaced the Windows Mail app)lacks so many features.
Thunderbird is solid. In fact it has so many features and settings available to the user if he wants to use them that it can be overwhelming. It would be a wonderful world if every application we used gave us so many options.

Outlook (New) asked for the password

Then asked for the account provider type (IMAP or POP)

This is where it makes me uncomfortable.

Regardless of if you select IMAP or POP, you can expect Microsoft to have access to your email accounts. Meaning your email address needs to sync in Microsoft Cloud, as apposed to a direct connection to your domain hosts webmail server.

What's worse, is that if you chose to enter your email account as IMAP, it takes for granted that you will have to sync with the Microsoft Cloud Server
It warns you with POP it doesn't warn you with IMAP

But if you decided to go with Thunderbird and wanted help, I believe that quite a few members use it so you could create a how do I? thread.
Thank you for your efforts BIBs says it all, I am absolutely not comfortable with Cloud so I would mind.

I realise millions use Cloud and are perfectly happy but from almost day 1 it wasn't for me.

I do know all my e-mail accounts I think are POP 3, POP something anyway but that's about all I know, sometimes if an email account goes down, not often, I enter the email and password for that account and that usually has be back up and running, sometimes I don't even have to do that, my domain server monitor everything, I have assumed it's a server glitch and they sort it with little inconvenience to me, mind you I pay for it.

I know it appears lazy of me but I'm best happy just pointing my cursor at each of my email account boxes within Live Mail and getting/sending my emails, just easy, don't have to think about it, I set it all up years and years ago with my domain host and forgot about it.

I'm receiving notifications to your messages on this thread via Live Mail

When ever I have upgraded my MS OS from Win 7 and all other incarnations to Win 10 Pro, Live Mail has followed me without to much issue.

Anyhows I'm digressing, it is what it is, Live Mail no more, ( unless I'm prepared to chance it ), going to have to learn something new.

I know nothing about Thunderbird, don't even know if my domain server supports it. All I require is the ability to use all my email accounts, point cursor, send and receive emails and attachments.

Thank you, I had downloaded WLE 2012 just in case, if I can't get on with anything else once I have upgraded to Win 11.

From what I'm reading installing WLE 12 into Win 11 is not always a walk in the park, adding to my imposed learning curve.

I will try my hand at other suites, take it from there. :-)

Thank you, I don't have any 365 products on my PC, don't use it.

I will have to try my hand at Thunderbird or any other simple email suite that might be around. :-)
