Win + V - Clipboard History - Images

Hi. New to Windows 11, I noticed that the native Clipboard History is not including images. However, my Win 10 setup did include and show the history of images in the Clipboard History.

I don't have Win 11 c/h set to Sync across devices, but I don't see how that should affect this setting. Ideas?

Best regards!

Heard. Sadly, not here. Not super worried about it, i guess.

It's nice to have the native utilities, and so happy when I discovered [Win+V], but there's always 3rd party stuff.
Prior to win 10, i used "clipdiary by softvoile". It stores imgs / rich text etc in an SQLite db, with scheduled backups, can store on a network, etc. Only for the true packrats!

I do hope i can figure out how to get Win+V to do the images. best regards!

Understood. Mine looked like that in Windows 10, as well.

Sadly, I get too distracted. You wouldn't believe the amount of time i waste on stuff like this. Is it a waste? I don't think so, truly. I'll say, "the amount of time I spend". but there's only so many hours in the day, and I have interviews, and a car payment, and i'm not used to this. :eek!: Oh my life is not fun right now... lol.

I will get that clipboard working though!
Where's @Bree !?
:D

EDIT:
Aside - i don't think Win 10 has those addl options at the top for emoji's etc. At least it didn't at first. It might now. In any case, there must be a setting somewhere (that's disabled on my Win 11 system).

I'm here, watching in puzzlement, I'm at a loss to add anything helpful. Never had a problem like yours. Whether in W10 or W11 all my machines show clipboard images in WinKey+V.

No, Win 10 doesn't. I happen to be on a W10 machine at the moment and the above is a W10 screenshot.

EDIT: Here's the same thing in the Insider Release Preview of Windows 11 22H2.

I thought this would be useful to add:
That happened ONLY after I used Greenshot to specifically copy the img to clipboard (unlike, eg. irfanview which seems to copy the img to the clipboard for pasting, but still doesn't put it in Win+V. I didn't realize that was "a thing"...)

In any case. There's that. lol

I've just been experimenting with Irfanview. What seems to be happening is that the the image is copied to the clipboard as you'd expect - but WinKey+V has a limit on just how large an image it can handle. This is actually noted in Brink's tutorial.

Clipboard history size limitations are 4 MB per item. Text, HTML, and Bitmap are supported.

https://www.elevenforum.com/t/enable-or-disable-clipboard-history-in-windows-11.973/

This photo of mine (the original source of my Avatar) at 1869x1653 can be copied to the clipboard with Ctrl+C in Irfanview and pasted anywhere with Ctrl+V, but does NOT appear in WinKey+V.

1663372255905.png

But shrink it to it to 640x566 in Irfanview and use Ctrl+C again to copy it, then it DOES appear in WinKey+V and can now be pasted from there too.

I'm not sure how I feel about this app which I guess you could say I accidentally installed while trying some Portableapps.com stuff. CopyQ is free, and has so many advanced features... I dunno about all that. :cautious:
i don't need another toy. essentially, isn't that what one-size-fits-all apps are? perhaps too complicated for productivity enhancement, which was the very reason you got it!
but, i'll leave the installation for now.

It does offer a scripting API if that's your cup of tea.

I wanted to show you guys my first subsequent use of the app i described, above. Clearly I don't use it very often. I thought I'd take a look to see what it had captured. What you see here is just separate instances of Ctrl+C i guess, not unlike the Native Windows clipboard. I got excited to see that it formatted things. Looks like gibberish at first glance, but that could become useful someday.
then-- and this is why it's relevant here-- to my surprise when i did an [ ALT + PrintScrn ] to grab the active window, here's what happened.
