Windows 11
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3511 laptop with a fresh install of Windows 11 Home ver. 22H2.
I am trying to get it on an existing network to access the printer connected to a Win10 computer with a cable connection.
I can see the laptop on the Win10 computer and access it.
Currenty, the laptop sees the router connecting to the internet, but doesn't see the network.
Discovery is ON and everything else that should be set to ON!
Password Protection = OFF
I've set SMB1 to On
The following is set to Automatic
-Function Discovery Provider Host
-Function Discovery Resource Publication
-DNS Client
-SSDP Discovery
-UPnP Device Host
(there might have been others)
I've been through ALL settings (numerous times).

If I go to System> About> Advanced System Settings - under the "Computer Name" tab, the "Network ID" is greyed out.

There has been a couple of occasions that the "Network" shows up and I can see the Win10 computer, BUT when I try to access it, it gives an error indicating I don't have permission and to see the administrator.

I'm stuck and don't know what else to check.

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

It's greyed out because you have Home. In Pro it launches a Wizard for joining a Domain, and of course Home does not support Domain membership. In Home if you want to change your Workgroup you can use the 'Change...' button just below Network ID.

When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

OK
Both computers already indicate Workgroup: WORKGROUP

The laptop shows up under Network in File Manager on the Win10 computer and I can access it.
The laptop does not see the Win10 computer most of the time.
On the one occasion that it seemed to detect the network and the Win10 computer showed up, it would not let me access it.

There are two sets of permissions involved, Share permissions and NTFS file permissions. On the PC you are trying to connect to both must be set so the account you are trying to connect with has permission.

For all my machines I set up a C:\Temp folder and share that for ease of transferring files. I set both Share permission and NTFS permission for the Temp folder to 'Everyone: full control' and turn of Password protected sharing on all machines.

You need to make sure that both the W10 computer and the W11 laptop are set up like that. In particular the Function Discovery settings.

Thanks, I'll double check the Win10 tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure I have both set the same as I indicated above.
As far as sharing, the only thing I'm actually trying to connect to is the printer on the Win10 computer. However, since I can't see the Win10 computer on the laptop, it doesn't see the printer either (yes, it's also set to Share the printer). The one time that it seemed to detect the Win10, I tried to set the laptop to access the printer and I got the error indicating I don't have permission and to see the administrator.

Appreciate your help... I'll follow up tomorrow after I double-check the computer.

Both computers are set the same. The laptop still does not see the Network with the Win10 computer.
However, the Win10 computer sees the Laptop in File Manager.
