Window menus are invisible in Windows 11

I have been experiencing this problem for a while. After opening the My Computer or Documents window in Windows 11, the menus at the top such as "New", "Copy", "Paste" etc. are invisible. In this case, when I right-click on an empty space in the window, the menus that should open (view, sort by, group by etc.) are also not visible. Has anyone experienced this problem? I wonder how we can solve it? I have given the relevant image below. Help me please, thanks.1.jpeg

Hi, welcome to the forum 🙏

First try the following:

Run the following commands one at a time:

scannow & restorehealth
  • Open search on your PC and type CMD (Command Prompt), right click on CMD (or Command Prompt) and “Open as admin”
  • Click on the following command to copy to the clipboard, paste it into CMD. Press enter:
SFC /scannow

  • Be patient. Reboot your PC when finished.
After reboot:

  • Right click on CMD and “Open as admin”
  • Click on the following command so it copies to your clipboard and paste it into the CMD window. Press enter:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

  • Press enter and be patient.
Any errors?

My graphics card ATI RAdeon HD 4600, Could this issue be related to the graphics card? I've heard that this problem occurs with ATI graphics cards. If the problem is with the graphics card, is there a solution?

Apparently the latest drivers for that chip are only available through Windows Update. Did you check Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates?

Are you running Windows 11 on an unsupported device? Your profile specs haven't been filled in, so I can't tell.

I have many laptops running 11, some supported, others not. I have seen that issue on just one of them, the unsupported System Two in 'My Computers' below. It seems to be due to having to use an older display driver. It's not every time I open Explorer, just occasionally. Closing and reopening Explorer sometimes fixes it, if not then open Task Manager, select Processes from the menu, select Windows Explorer, then click 'Restart task' at the top. This will restart every explorer process, including the Taskbar. My File Explorer works normally for a while after that.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

It is definitely a graphics driver issue, not just for ATI though. I have it with the integrated Intel HD Graphics on an i5-520M.

There's little you can do about it. With such old graphics support ended long ago. The last driver update would have been released long before Windows 10, let alone Windows 11.

The Radeon HD 4600 series was announced on September 10, 2008.

I later learned that the problem might be related to the graphics card, so I wrote down the situation related to the graphics card bro

When I do what you say, the problem is fixed for a while, then the menus disappear again. I think my graphics card is old and not compatible with Windows 11. Thanks to everyone who contributed

Have you tried any 3rd party file managers? I use Files that can be found in the MS Store and OneCommander. I don't remember if Files is free or not. My version of OneCommander is the free version. I think Files is a pay for app that comes with a trial period. When I look in the store I only see the option to open it. It may be worth checking out though.
