We need more information. Does it give you any error message? If not look in the upgrade logs. It depends at which point the failure occurs as to which logfiles are created.

If no error message occurs, the following log files are created when an upgrade fails during installation before the computer restarts for the second time. You have to look at these logs to get an idea of what's causing the failure. Since mine rolled back, I found mine in C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback\setupact.err

  • C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\setupact.log
  • C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\miglog.xml
  • C:\Windows\setupapi.log
  • [Windows 10:] C:\Windows\Logs\MoSetup\BlueBox.log
  • C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.app.log
  • C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log
  • C:\Windows\panther\PreGatherPnPList.log
  • C:\Windows\panther\PostApplyPnPList.log
  • C:\Windows\memory.dmp
The following log files are created when an upgrade fails, and then you restore the desktop:

  • C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\setupact.log
  • C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\miglog.xml
  • C:\$Windows.~BT\sources\panther\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log
  • C:\$Windows.~BT\sources\panther\setupapi\setupapi.app.log
  • C:\Windows\memory.dmp
The following log files are created when an upgrade fails, and the installation rollback is initiated:

  • C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback\setupact.log
  • C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback\setupact.err

You didn’t mention what method you are useing.

Did you create a USB with RUFUS?
If not, what method are you using to tell Windows to ignore the TPM issues?

antspants is correct to ask. For your unsupported 3rd gen i7 you must have been using a workaround to install (or do you mean upgrade to?) 24H2.

Which one? Did you make sure you disconnected from the internet while upgrading? (It can fail if you don't)

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

no antspants, also update by creating Rufus 4.5 version with win24H2,
With Rufus USB drive you don't need to disconnect with internet.

Rufus is not ready yet to upgrade to 24H2 using the original ISO. You must either use 23H2 ISO and replace the file sources\install.wim (or .esd) with the respective file from 24H2 ISO, or you must open a Run window and execute D:\setup /product server to bypass compatibility check. Replace D: with the USB drive letter. Of course you must disconnect from the internet until the upgrade is complete or it might fail. To make extra sure, I even imported certain keys to Registry, see my post in the Let's install Windows 11 on unsupported computers thread.

i have had to disconnect 3 computers from the internet to stop updates from installing while upgrading as the upgrade with internet enabled failed.
one of the 3 a laptop i5 7200u required a full clean install. i also used a Rufus made 24H2 USB drive.

hope this helps, best of luck. Steve ..

No need to low lever format your SSD. In fact this might affect its life. If you are sure you have no data you need on the disk you may simple delete all partitions when you see the disk in Setup to make the whole disk an unallocated space. Then click Next to begin installing (assuming you have already bypassed compatibility check or you don't need to). Alternatively, you can press SHIFT+F10 to open a Command prompt and use diskpart to clear your disk.

Code:
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
clean
exit
exit

Replace 0 with the appropriate number, be extra careful not to wipe any other disk!

I updated my unsupported system with the latest Rufus no problem

Many find it difficult to do a simple hack to install Windows 11 on their unsupported computers. They should see the amount of hacking required to trick Mac OS you have a supported Mac and let you install Mac OS on unsupported Apple computers, or even worse a common PC! To satisfy your curiosity see any installation guide on www.insanelymac.com/forum The newer the Mac OS version the more difficult is to do it.
