If you have an unsupported computer, please refer to the relevant thread, how to install Windows 11 on unsupported computers. It is not enough to use a Rufus patched USB or to replace the hidden file appraiserres.dll with a dummy. You must also disconnect from the internet until the upgrade is over. Any software that could interrupt the upgrade, such as third party antivirus, must be disabled.

I have seen this problem on several PCs. New, supported PCs cannot upgrade from 2H21 to 2H22 Win11. Error. Several attempts fail.

What is the error message? Probably Windows Update tries to install some drivers and fails. I would select NOT to use Windows Update during the upgrade. To make sure nothing happens without my permission I would download the ISO and run Setup from there while disconnected from the internet. Without internet Windows Update cannot mess with your working drivers. After a successful upgrade you can update any drivers needed.

What's the error and specs of your pc. I'm going to create a iso without the tpm nonsense. I do this by DL the latest version and with imgburn (an with this etfsboot file) I'm able to create the USB stick thus recreation of the iso that worked to upgrade. You want/need GPT or just want MBR?

Is your pc a branded (bought in store) or a custom built? Again I think it's a bought in store one. Again even if it says the update is there doesn't mean that it'll update. Many factors include branded bios "not allow" or just the OS itself with some custom modifications which I hate. I hate pre-built systems. With that... I think you *Should be able to do a fresh install by DL the latest version and create a USB with Rufus. Just be sure you backup of course

Where upgrading through Windows Update may fail, doing an in-place upgrade using an ISO can often succeed.

To do an in-place upgrade you first need to download the 22H2 ISO. The best way to do that and ensure you get the ISO that is correct for your PC is to run the Media Creation Tool and tick the box for 'Use the recommended options for this PC'. See Option One here:

To start the upgrade, mount the ISO by double-clicking on it, then run the Setup you'll find there. See this tutorial.

At step 9 make sure you click on 'Change how Setup downloads updates' and select 'Not right now'. This can often help with troublesome upgrades. You'll be able to check for updates after the upgrade is complete.

And if this fails too, well at least you'll have the ISO you'd need to do a clean install.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Beta as native boot vhdx.

My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 4GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus the Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds as a native boot .vhdx.

unsupported machine: Legacy bios, MBR, TPM 1.2, upgraded from W10 to W11 using W10/W11 hybrid install media workaround. In-place upgrade to 22H2 using ISO and a workaround. Feature Update to 23H2 by manually installing the Enablement Package. Also running Insider Beta, Dev, and Canary builds as a native boot .vhdx.

Upgrade to 22H2...

Probably the easiest way (other than waiting on Windows Updates), to upgrade to 22H2 is this.
Use Option #2 (this link), to get the 22H2 ISO image, save it to your desktop.

Then use that ISO image to do an In-Place Upgrade to 22H2.

Here is the short version of the In-Place Upgrade tutorial...

DISABLE non-Microsoft:
a) antivirus software
b) firewall software
c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)

Download the Windows 11 ISO from the 3rd option... here...

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.
Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.
The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

After you've upgraded to Windows 11 22H2, run Windows Updates to get the latest version.
When that's done, make a fresh backup.
