24H2 Beta Channel before release? It's still 23H2.

Good question, but we will have to all wait and see what MS does around the time 24H2 is officially released.

I cannot recall how they handled a similar situation if it arose when 22h2 was being superseded by 23H2.

I've been running 24H2 for months, just not the MS formal release.

Goodness knows the answer to that question. MS may not know themselves when the 'official' release date will be.

Anyway, 24H2 is available now for anyone who wants to use it.

Preview? I had strange CPU Usage in idle in 24H2 (CPU Cores always working little %, no apps opened) but not in 23H2.

If I understand that correctly, it might affect you in a corporate environment.

24H2 stopped working
# Disable Spectre and Meltdown protection / other mitigations
# Rename “mcupdate_AuthenticAMD.dll” to “mcupdate_AuthenticAMD.dll.old” if using an AMD CPU

after rebooting the OS goes into an endless self-recovery cycle.

The long awaited 'Auto color management' looks bad on my monitor. Disabled.

No longer run .exe files from a Ram disk made with ImDisk Tk.
I am using Arsenal-Image-Mounter now.

This is getting pretty random.

Whatever the virtues or failings of the 24H2 versions people are using, it has little to do with SP80's question: why is the Beta channel still on 23H2? Seems like it should be ahead of the RP channel. But it's not.

I installed (26100.1742) using ISO from 23H2 on PC. Can i update to 24H2 Stable using Windows Update when it will be released or only with 24H2 ISO Stable?

26100.1742 may receive additional updates prior to when the release version appears. (I received 26100.1742 as an update from 26100.1591 via Windows Update. I'm not enrolled in the RP Insider program.)

I'm pretty sure that Windows Update will update will take the RP build to the release version when that becomes available.

(However, getting the ISO for the release version and manually "upgrading" would be Plan B.)

Yes, as long as your PC meets the 24H2 requirements it will upgrade through Windows Update. Likely within the next 3-4 weeks

You could make an argument for there being two RP channels at present, one for those who took the 24H2 update when offered in Windows Update, and another for those who didn't and stayed on 23H2.

My theory is that there are effectively two 'beta' channels now while 23H2 and 24H2 are both still getting developments. For now the Dev channels is behaving more like a 'beta' for 24H2 while Beta is still for 23H2.

Beta should move to 24H2 soon, once the final 24H2 is available to everyone. Then Dev will probably move onto the Next version
So we'll see Beta 24H2 > RP 24H2 > public releases again

That would contravene MS's policy to be utterly illogical about Insider build numbering.

Frankly the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing and Amanda and Burton should hang their heads in shame and resign - even Dona Kebab was more logical.
