Hi forum colleagues

I would appreciate your opinion/suggestions
for plausible reasons why my system (with the specifications and in the context described below) has not yet presented the update for Windows 11 24H2.

Specifications and Context of my System
=============================
Hardware

  • Laptop: ACER Predator Helios 300 PH315-55-77SJ
  • Processor: 12th Gen Intel Core, i7-12700H 2.70 GHz
  • RAM: 32.0 GB, 2x16GB Crucial DDR5-4800, SODIMM
  • OS
    • Edition: Windows 11 Pro (pt) (retail version; Laptop came without OS)
    • Version: 23H2
    • Build: 22631.4460
  • Storage:
    • Disk Drive0 SSD Crucial CT1000P5PSSD8 (1000 GB, PCI-E 4.0 x4)
    • Disk Drive1 SSD Micron_3400_MTFDKBA512TFH (512 GB, PCI-E 4.0 x4)
  • Display:
    • Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics Display Adapter (1 GB); Intel Arc Driver, v. 32.0.101.6078
    • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU Display Adapter (6GB); NVIDIA Studio Driver, v. 566.14
Software & Diagnostics (some)
  • BIOS/Firmware: all updated (from the manufacturer),
  • Drivers: all updated,
  • Device Manager: showing no problems,
  • Windows Update switch: "Update when available", is in "On" mode (obviously)
  • Software/Apps: all updated and apparently no software/apps/drivers, which can cause problems.
  • "System File Checker" (SFC and DISM included): without any problems
  • ...

Thank you for your attention!

MS is only slowly rolling out 24H2. It could take months for all to receive it.

Also, I gave you ten points, just for filling out your computer specs. :-)

I waited a while could be your laptop was slated for later update. You do not give when it was made or TPM version has to be version 2.0 to get the 24H2 update. If yours is 1.2 there could be a 2.0 update from computer maker

He's running a 12th gen core cpu. He's plenty compatible.

To the OP, I would wait a few more weeks. If it's not offered to you, you can try a manual in-place upgrade by downloading the iso.

I strongly recommend you create a full system image first. Getting to 24h2 has been a rough one for a lot of folks with a lot of stuff happening that has no rhyme or reason.

I have very similar hardware on my Laptop and not been offered the 24H2.

I see you have added hardware and forced some driver updates. Nvidia studio drivers seem to indicate more serious usage.

Very happy to wait, a few months, could not care less. The explanation is that there maybe problems with the hardware or software.
Only an idiot would force a Windows update like that on a machine in regualar use for a purpose.

"Software/Apps: all updated and apparently no software/apps/drivers, which can cause problems."
Apparent is the most operative word, you do not really know what may cause problems.

Just know you are not alone. A lot of folks are waiting for it to be offered. Ms announced early on it's mass rollout would be gradual. I think when so many people experienced problems, MS may well be rolling it out even more gradually than they themselves ever intended.

Don't be too much in a hurry to save yourself from possible fallout. I promise you, you aren't missing a darned thing by not having it yet. It was a nightmare for me. I ended up having to clean install it only to wonder why I spent 3 whole days and nights of work to get it.

I've been in email contact with Europe-based support for a software utility I use.

It's not clear that the 24H2 rollout has appeared for most outside the US.

That may be a good thing. 24H2 seems more half-baked than any update I recall in recent years.

Yes... and yes!
"Only an idiot" would force a Windows update like that on a machine in regular use for a purpose
I wouldn't say that in such an "excessive" way... perhaps I would designate him as "an adventurer"!... Of course I could force the installation of 24H2, but I don't want to take the risk!

Apparent is the most operative word, you do not really know what may cause problems.
As I'm not an IT expert (I'm just a "hobbyist" on this subject!), I have to be humble and hence the term "apparently"!...

I'm letting 24H2 be installed as it desires. I did a clean install of Win11 23H2 on Sat. and when finished it and started the updates it also got 24H2 installed, haven't seen any issue yet. There are a couple differences, no Windows.old after the updates and has included a OneDriveTemp folder on the C: drive. Bitlocker is automatically active but no passkey given/established with a new entry on the Properties panel.

I wouldn't say that in such an "excessive" way... perhaps I would designate him as "an adventurer"!... Of course I could force the installation of 24H2, but I don't want to take the risk!
None of my three supported devices have been offered it yet. This 'adventurer' did persuade one of them to get 24H2 through Windows Update by the simple expediency of setting the target release version for 24H2 and letting Windows Update do the rest.

Having seen 24H2 and its yet-to-be-resolved minor bugs I'm not surprised that the rollout is taking it slow while MS fixes them. I'm in no hurry to get it on the rest of my machines. I'll wait for it to be offered through the normal channels.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

When I read that, I heard an Austrian accent. Strange. :D

And I've never figured out if that is a promise or a threat.

@glasskuter

... you can try a manual in-place upgrade by downloading the iso.
Yes, actually the "in-place-upgrade" with the ISO file (after checking its integrity) would be the safest way to do this (when you think of a "forced" upgrade)

I strongly recommend you create a full system image first.
Naturally!... ;)

I think when so many people experienced problems, MS may well be rolling it out even more gradually than they themselves ever intended.
Perhaps the first "guinea pigs" were the "Windows Insiders" themselves...

It was a nightmare for me. I ended up having to clean install it only to wonder why I spent 3 whole days and nights of work to get it.

What happened?... Did you use In-place-upgrade, and it went wrong??

It's not clear that the 24H2 rollout has appeared for most outside the US.
I'm European (Portuguese) and I have no information about this procedure from MS!... I don't know... it could be!
