Hello,

I always worked with Windows-7 and I used Ccleaner to clean up Temporary- files, Internet-traces, Temporary Bowser-files etc.

Now I work with Windows-11 and i want to know which program i can use to do the same actions as before with Ccleaner

What i want is, to clean the system from all Temporary Files, Browser traces, etc.

What program can i use to perform these functions

Someone mentioned Wise Disk Cleaner in a thread of mine. Windows has it's own tools: Disk Cleanup and Settings/System/Storage there are cleanup options.

i'm pretty sure Ccleaner still works on Windows 11, you can keep using that if you are comfortable with it.

I personally don't do anything for routine maintenance. Every now and again, I'll run disk cleanup and let Windows do it. but it's nothing that I do on the regular.

Howdy & welcome to the forum !
CCleaner was undeniably a must-have tool. Its intention was to clean up temporary or junk files from your system, hopefully optimizing it and gaining
a little performance. It also can deal with broken registry entries, and may still find a place in a power users' software kit.
This is now a function that comes built into Windows. The Disk Cleanup tool already scans and suggests the removal of irrelevant junk files,
with the added benefit of not touching the increasingly delicate registry files of Windows.
So while CCleaner used to find its way onto most installations of Windows for the purposes of troubleshooting, many users now get these same problems fixed with the inbuilt tools provided to them.

I've used CCleaner since it was first called CrapCleaner, as long as one is careful and also not using it routinely there should be no problem. However, as in the way of many programs such as happened with Norton programs when going to Symantec they tend to get bloated with added 'things' and lose focus on their primary purpose.

You don't need any of that stuff -- just use bog standard Windows facilities -- if you really can't get rid of unwanted stuff then clean install. However there's almost nothing that can't be got rid of by just using bog standard Windows features. Even pesky viruses which are often really hard to detect or removed can be got rid of at a stroke. The trick is to boot a clean windows install and attach the infected disk as a data drive and run a custom scan on the root directory on that drive. Then reboot. E.G a particularly nasty one often got by people installing pirated copies of OFFICE 2021.

Then with a bit of work :

Ccleaner does work on Win11 but through trial and error and testing out about 2 dozen different apps I now use
RegOrganizer Portable version. It has a ton of things you can do including but not limited to Cleaning all the temp files etc etc
but a registry editor which works better and with more options than most other apps. Check it out and if you need help finding it
Let me know.
Otherwise in my grand opinion, DONT use a cleaning app especially if your using SSDs. SSDs use their own method of keeping things
tidy and continually deleting files etc will suck the life out of your SSDs. Its as always up to you to decide but in general as others have stated
here, USE the windows disk cleanup tool etc.

Try doing that for multiple browsers, while making sure you do NOT delete any of the log-in and other cookies that you must keep (Eleven Forum, your Bank, etc.). That is probably the only reason I still use CCleaner. I can whitelist the necessary cookies and clean all my browsers in one hit.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Try doing that for multiple browsers
I don't do it either but let CC do it for me. It was just fyi if the OP took the advice of using disk cleanup.

You can use Storage Spaces in Windows to clear Temp files and Windows.old etc https://pupuweb.com/solved-fix-remove-temp-windows11-storage-sense/

That doesn't always work well. For instance, if you restore from an old backup it will not clean the older temp files. So I wrote a powershell script that deletes everything older than a week old. I have it run every morning from a scheduled task that wakes my computer and goes back to sleep when done with this and other daily maintenance, Then I never have to worry about it :-)

Code:
function CleanupMP {

$limit = (Get-Date).AddDays(-7)

start-sleep -seconds 5
get-childitem -Path c:\users\gene\appdata\local\temp\remoteIpMoProxy_* | Remove-Item -Force -Recurse

$path="C:\Users\Gene\appdata\local\temp"
$dirs = Get-ChildItem -directory -path $path -Force | Where-Object { $_.lastwritetime -lt $limit } | unlockedList
$dirs | Get-Childitem -recurse | Where-Object { !$_.PSIsContainer } | Remove-Item -Force
$dirs | Remove-Item -recurse -Force

Meaning no disrespect, but, I used CCleaner twice over a period of time, and both times it left my OS inoperative.
So now it's on my sh** list!
With much experimenting, over a period of time, I finally found "Win Utilities". I bought the Pro version, with a lifetime lic. and I use it on all my 12 PC's. It's never removed anything that I didn't want it to, and it helps me keep my PC clean and running in top shape.
Get the FREE Version:

It's a multi-functional program, that does a lot more than just clean out junk files and fixes registry bloat.

I also use a little program, called simply "Temp Cleaner", in my Startup Folder for a daily temp file cleanup.
I got it from a friend, who works for the US Govt.

And I use "Super Anti Spyware" to keep my PC clean of Tracking Cookies, that can build up at an alarming rate. The FREE version, works Great!
But, has to be run manually. The Pro version can be set to update and run a scan daily.

A clean machine is a happy machine!
I do a massive cleanup on my PC before I do my weekly Ghost Backup.

That can happen any time one works in the Registry and with any program, one misstep can kill Windows so knowing what can help adds to caution in using it. Or maybe I've just been lucky in not needing the backup of the Registry that CCleaner prompts to make first.

CCleaner with CCEnhancer is a deadly combination, but Privazer rules them all, I would not use it though.

I do not see how unless you were just cleaning without reviewing first what was going to be cleaned.
Both the files cleaner and registry cleaner have review options.
Registry cleaner also gives you the option to make a backup of what it removes that you could import back into the registry.

PrivaZer is a great app if used cautiously, probably the only one I know that can easily and safely remove all entries for deleted files from the MFT.

I would never, ever, recommend anyone to use any cleaner on the registry though!

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop.
