Windows 11 Drivers for Intel HD graphics 400 Not working why

Hey,

i have a small computer as media player wor watching movies and other stuff.
And today i have installed Windows 11 PRO, but unfortunately the drivers cannot be installed.

windows 11 drivers do not exist, but there are for windows 10. however, the installation does not want to start because it reports that it does not support the specified system.

after that i tried to install with .INF file. and then the installation succeeds, but at the end it reports an error again that it cannot start the device

so please help, is there a way to do it somehow ? some fix or similar ?

That's a very old Celeron processor. 15.40 is latest driver. Intel® Celeron® Processor N3060 (2M Cache, up to 2.48 GHz) Downloads, Drivers and Software | Intel
In device manager-expand display adapter-Right click on the device and select uninstall, make sure box to delete drivers is checked-restart
The driver says it will work for Windows 10 but if the above driver is what you attempted to install already, the only thing I can suggest is try to install in compatibility mode for windows 10 Install driver in compatibility mode

I wondered how you ("glasskuter") came up with a Celeron, from what "bundyboy" posted. Not that it matters, but: Intel HD 400 processors.

The list of requirements for Windows 11 includes WDDM 2.0 drivers. Windows 10 only requires WDDM 1.0. (That goes all the way back to Vista.) I have no idea what WDDM version is supported by the drivers that "glasskuter" was kind enough to locate. It's possible that they do not support WDDM 2.0 or later. I also don't know whether 11 can be forced to run with older graphics drivers through compatibility mode.

This isn't an easy suggestion, but it probably makes more sense to run vintage hardware like that under Windows 10.

@bobkn I found the original windows 7 32 bit driver and read the release notes. Then hunted around on Intel's site. When I found it it said it applied to Intel 3000 series celeron and Atom e8000. Since Atoms were mainly small device processors, I assumed it had to be a Celeron. The driver, however is for both. I totally agree about Windows 10 being far preferable than Windows 11.

I visited your link for the 15.40 drivers. I'm not clever enough to deduce the WDDM version of the drivers, even if I look at the .zip version of the download. (Which has human readable contents, unlike the .exe.) The dates on the files don't seem helpful, either.

It has Intel Atom x5-Z8350 Cherry Trail.

all in all, if I can't find adequate drivers. then I can realistically forget about Windows 11?

I can only tell you my experience with the Cherry Trail. I bought a used HP tablet with a Cherry Trail CPU in the early days of Windows 10. It was originally Windows 8. I bought a dock for it and installed a very early version of Windows 10 using the Windows 8 drivers and it ran OK. (Sorry, I do not remember exactly what release). When Windows Update installed a newer version (it was either the Anniversary or Fall Creators, again I don't remember which) I lost my touch and video kept crashing. I worked for days trying to get different drivers to work but never could. Several clean installs, many different drivers. Luckily I had made backup of the working version which I had to restore. I ended up having to disable windows updates to keep the tablet working.

That said, it seems others have managed to run 11 on the Cherry Trail. There are a couple of youtube videos on it.

On RadXa Official site there is a driver archive download as well as a Windows 10 iso download with drivers included in it. You might be able to extract the drivers and see if you can get them to work in 11. If you have Windows 10 working on that device already, I suggest you make a backup before attempting Windows 11. Also, if you have 10 working you can backup the drivers you are now using and attempt to restore them once you have 11 installed. I use a free handy little tool called Double Driver Backup and Restore. It is portable so requires no installation.

It can be done, but you will have all kinds of ongoing problems with large updates in the futureif you do not have sufficient space.
