Windows 11 hanging/lagging for miniseconds, 4-5 times per minute

Windows 11
For the last 2 weeks, a few times per minute, my computer freezeshangs for about 0.25 seconds. This results in Spotify skipping/lagging, the mouse freezing and generally any processes stopping, and then resuming as normal.

This could be to do with a series of driver updates I performed using a 3rd party software, which I have since learned can be a bad idea.

I updated RTX driver to latest, after the issue began. Didn't help. And I've run all available Windows updates. Latest Windows update was: 2023-11 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5032288). RTX GPU driver on R545 U2 (studio drivers).

Any help would be appreciated. Is it worth unplugging and replugging USB inputs?

Many thanks,
Will

Hi & welcome to the forum,
This could be caused by a myriad of things.
You need to open Task Manager, keep it open and observe.
Look for spikes in CPU/RAM use.

Hello and welcome to the forum. As to what it can be, pretty much anything; file corruption, failing hardware, heat, bad driver, software interference. If the problem began when you used a third party driver updater, start there. Ideally, that would be restoring a backup, but if you do not have one, do a system restore if you have an old system restore point prior to that time.
Option 2 here. Use System Restore in Windows 11 Tutorial

HAve you updated to 23H2? If so then there you have a problem. Mine started when updated to 23H2 games freezing, Chrome freezeing and alot of wierd stuff. Reinstalled Windows and it was fine until i updated to 23H2

Try this one and see if it helps

Open Windows Shell with Admin rights

Then use this

Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI -AllUsers | Reset-AppxPackage

Reboot, and ensure that CPU virtualization is enabled in your BIOS
If allready enabled then leave it so

Open the Windows Security app within the Settings menu, and make sure that Memory Integrity is enabled under Core Isolation. Reboot

It saved me now i dont have any more lags

Thanks - I'm actually on '2023-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5033375)' at the moment so not 23h3.

I got 'access denied' on Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI -AllUsers | Reset-AppxPackage

I had a similar lagging/stuttering when I got this new computer, and it was about the same time as 23H2 came out. I disconnected all of the USB devices except the keyboard and mouse, and it stopped. I WAS using a USB hub, but eventually plugged the keyboard and mouse into the USB2 jacks directly to the computer, and the rest into the USB3 hub and everything is smooth now.

I don't know it that helps, but it's easy enough to disconnect a cable or 2 to find out.

This could be to do with a series of driver updates I performed using a 3rd party software, which I have since learned can be a bad idea.

Use Windows Search and look for Reset This PC and do a Windows Reset mate. Then reinstall nVidia drivers - and if that issue is still present you can try something else. The think about 3rd party apps updating drivers - it's enough to find the same ID of a component - and if that driver is more recent - it will update it. But same component (made by Intel or AMD) - is not handled the same by each OEM (HP, Lenovo, etc). So the driver can install - but it won't be stable (if not incompatible for whatever reason - whatever change was implemented by the OEM). It's why Intel/AMD usually recommends to use the OEM drivers for the sake of stability - if older version. Tho, if it's a Videocard - that usually works the same following the functionality as defined by nVidia/AMD - even higher clocks/frequencies/voltage (not relevant or won't run unstable if using nVidia/AMD offcial drivers). Same can't be said by a motherboard made by Dell - usin drivers from ASUS (sometimes it works - since not much was changed - maybe even most of the times, yet - there's a higher chance for issues).

This has to be a recent build due to your hardware. (very nice setup, by the way) Lamenting over it doesn't get to the bottom of it so you have to start somewhere in your troubleshooting. Unless you get some kind of hard fault it will not necessarily be easy as the only way of doing it is by the process of elimination and will take time. Asking yourself some questions should tell you the most logical place to start and give the folks here needed information to give more definitive answers..

Are you running latest UEFI bios?

Does event viewer show any errors at the time these freezes? Are any logs generated that could lead you to a starting point? If so, gather the logs, zip them, upload the zipped file to any cloud provider andpost a shared link here so someone can analyze them. See BSOD posting instructions
HERE

Does it happen in clean boot? If it doesn't happen in a clean boot, you have some software conflicting with Windows. Brink's procedure will help you weed out which one. Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 11 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts Tutorial

Does it happen in safe boot? Boot to Safe Mode in Windows 11 Tutorial

If all was well using the manufacturer drivers but not after a third party tool updated those drivers this would be suspicious.

Have you had this issue from the beginning? If yes, did you Stress test your bare bones hardware properly before any overclocking as you should have done? Did you test your ram using bootable Memtest? Is the ram on the QVL for that mobo? Have you tested your other hardware (CPU and GPU, m.2) for faults and temperatures using tools like Cinebench, Seatools, Hard Disk Sentinal while monitoring those tests with software such as HWinfo64.

So you see, there's a lot of things that are unknown to us.

OK guys an update. The lag came back again a while after i tryed this fix. But i found the real problem, it was my RISER cable on my Lian Li case that made this lags. My old card has no problem with it but new one 4070 GTX had issue so i removed riser cable and now i run my computer for 2 days without issue.

Idk why my new graphic card dont work with the riser cable because it is PciE 4.0 both of them. Even changing settings in BIOS for PciE GEN dont work with riser cable
