Insider Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 22621.1 (ni_release) Version 22H2 - May 11

  • Staff
UPDATE 6/9:

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621 to the Beta Channel.

TL;DR

  • We are releasing ISOs for this build – they can be downloaded here.
  • This build includes a small set of fixes that will improve the overall experience for Windows Insiders on their devices.

Changes and Improvements

[General]
  • [REMINDER] The build watermark at the lower right-hand corner of the desktop is no longer present in this build. This doesn’t mean we’re done, and the watermark will return to Insiders in a future build.

Fixes

[General]

  • Updated the underlying speech platform to improve voice activity detection for voice access, live captions, and voice typing, as well as address some issues with how punctuation is recognized.

[File Explorer]

  • Fixed an issue leading to Insiders seeing error 0x800703E6 when copying files from Google Drive.
  • Fixed an issue where if you had ever opened the context menu, doing CTRL + ALT + DEL and cancelling would lead to explorer.exe crashing.

[Taskbar]

  • Fixed an issue related to loading the system tray icons in Settings > Personalization > Taskbar which could cause Settings to crash when opening that page recently. This issue may have also led to some explorer.exe crashes for impacted Insiders.

[Windows Security]

  • Fixed an issue which could result in Smart App Control unexpectedly blocking correctly signed applications.

Known issues

[Live captions]

  • Certain apps in full screen (e.g., video players) prevent live captions from being visible.
  • Certain apps positioned near the top of the screen and closed before live captions is run will re-launch behind the live captions window positioned at top. Use the system menu (ALT + Spacebar) while the app has focus to move the app’s window further down.

For developers

You can download the latest Windows Insider SDK at aka.ms/windowsinsidersdk.

SDK NuGet packages are now also flighting at NuGet Gallery | WindowsSDK which include:
These NuGet packages provide more granular access to the SDK and better integrate in CI/CD pipelines.

About the Beta Channel

The Beta Channel will be the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. However, this does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship. We encourage Insiders to read this blog post from last month that outlines the ways we’ll try things out with Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels.

The desktop watermark you see at the lower right corner of your desktop is normal for these pre-release builds.

I would say, If or when they decide too. I'm still waiting for them to fix the MS Weather app so that it shows the hours when in the detail mode. If they think they are going to force me into using the Widgets, they can take a long walk on a short pier.

I got really, really tired of the cornucopia of useless bugs in the Dev builds. Much happier in Beta, now. But enjoy, and I wish you the best...

Sweet, trouble-free system! How I love this 6900XT! Exceeds my expectations by quite a bit, btw.
I consider only Dev to be true test and worth checking as it's (supposedly) most advanced but it's a dual BOOT with regular versions.

We will see, I hope MS stop for a week new Beta release and give Beta users a window to pass from Beta to Insider Release Preview channel (as MS does this possibility 'till now for Dev passing to Beta) because I'm using my personal pc only 1 day a week and I'm tired pass 3 hours installing new build and I wanna change to RP as soon as possible

Sorry, the Beta build has moved on to 22H2 (new build number 22621.1), but RP is still at 21H2 (old build number 22000.675). You cannot leave Beta for RP until RP is moved to same build as Beta. Fortunately, as we are close to release of 22H2, this should not be to far away.

The opportunity to go from Dev back to Beta is very shortlived, as users roll back to 22616.1 which is common Dev/Beta, and you can switch.
Beta within last 10 days (and has not deleted windows.old).

This build seems to be reasonably stable -- I'm 100% fed up with the 25115 build -- seems to have problems all over the place -- even getting into the security panel you get message --you need store app for xxxx or something - I'm done being "an unpaid guinea pig" for Ms because they obviously haven't tested stuff adequately or done sensible QC on a buikl.

I don't have problems with some defects in these sorts of builds or even the stability -- you shouldn't use these for "Productive work" but surely the BASE functionality of the OS should work.

(For client work logging on to work VPN's etc I'm still using W10 as I can't afford even the basic W11 to fail when you've got project deadlines to meet -- but that's another issue of course).

The 25115 doesn't even behave the same on different machines with identical hardware and the same VM setup !!!! (at least not on my hardware) and I usually stick mainly to Ms stuff on Windows with very few exceptions such as Photoshop and Macrium.

Ms need to test their builds on PHYSICAL AMD and INTEL machines, then on physical vhdx files, then on several VM scenarios - Hype-V, Vmware, Vbox . and these days a load also use Linux servers (including Ms itself) so even say on an UBUNTU host as that seems a popular linux distro.

I'd love to have a look at some of their "Testing Scripts" -- if they have any -- Best practice surely puts a whole slew of actions to perform with expected results - and Pass / Fail settings -- if more than a certain % Fail then that build is not released until those defects fixed.

When all those scenarios are "reasonably working" then let the release out of the door.

Cheers
jimbo

I can say with 100% certainty, maybe.
Indeed, MS has released ISO, thus anyone not participating in Insider will be able to update to RTM.
Besides no watermark and the new 23H2 Dev was released the same day. It is almost dead obvious.
