Hi guys. I am wanting to upgrade to Windows 11, and my laptop meets the requirements. I read on this link about installing early:
How to get the free Windows 11 upgrade early - The Verge.
Thing is, I believe that is for an upgrade, and not a clean install. Do you guys recommend that I just do the upgrade? If not, how do I do a clean install of W11? Thoughts and help appreciated :)

Thanks for the info. I am not sure what I need to download as far as ISO goes, the Windows site gave me several options. Do you recommend a clean install of 11, or should I just do the in-place upgrade?

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
Current 22000.194 is still Beta/Release Preview, we cannot know for sure whether the release will be exactly the same or some last fixes will be added. Anyway right now it's offered as upgrade for Insiders, so if you want to get the stable Windows 11, upgrade now but quit Insider after 5 October. Otherwise you will get the next RP build some time after release. You should decide if it's suitable for you or not.

If your laptop meets the requirements of Windows 11, you have two options:
Update your existing Windows 10 to Windows 11- Before updating please make a backup of the present OS using the Macrium Reflect Free Edition (in case something goes south, normally it doesn't). And update to Windows 11.
Other option is to install a fresh version using the ISO on a separate partition or on the same partition where windows 10 is installed.
If all goes well and you are able to work easily, you can delete the other OS.
If you don't like Windows 11, you can always restore the windows 10 using the Macrium Reflect.
Regards

I want to get the stable W11, but did follow link I posted from Verge and have a pending W11 Install that I didn't start yet. Is it safe/ok to upgrade to W11 now, and then opt out of Insider? How do I do that?

Personally I went for an upgrade, I had a new win 10 machine set up exactly as I wanted it and then joined the insiders beta channel and upgraded to 11 it kept all my files, settings etc and I have never had any problems. I think a lot of people are using old or very low spec machines ( that don't meet min requirements, so they tweak them ) or they have been tweaked and changed a lot, and they seem to get a lot of problems.

Ok, thank you so much! It is pretty much safe/ok to go with upgrade now? I have a pending W11 install from when I followed Verge link. Would I be able to get W11 updates in future if I go ahead with early upgrade?

You don't need to be an Insider to get updates - these builds are not time-bombed - it's like a normal install not an Insider install.

Hi again guys. I am now on Windows 11! I really like it so far, and all of my stuff transferred also. Anyway, I am concerned about something. I read on Windows 11 that to completely opt out of future W11 builds, I need to do a clean W11 install? When I did the Windows Insider Program W11 early install, following the verge site article, I just did the in-place upgrade, and not a clean W11 install. How do I opt out of Insider, so it doesn't install a new preview build or something? Is it safe to opt out and still keep W11 updated? Am confused about all of this. Help appreciated :)

I did the In-Place Upgrade and even though I'm on a beta build, I'm NOT a Windows Insider.
You are worrying for no reason.

IF you made a backup like the Verge article instructed, you're fine. Just relax and enjoy Windows 11.

The guide, that I linked for you on here and on Ten Forums... works just as well, with the same results.
You are asking us, over and over... to "predict" what Microsoft will do and when they will do it.
No one can do that, except Microsoft. We are not Microsoft.

Microsoft doesn't really even KNOW what they will do in the future.
Does this sound familiar? "Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows".
Relax, and try to enjoy Windows 11.

If you don't WANT to worry... make a backup, as the Verge and everyone on here... recommends. :)

Btw, welcome to Eleven Forum. :)

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?

Bingo.. but honestly that comment wasn't from MS about 10 being the last OS. That aside you're correct. There's nothing to worry about as long as someone does a backup.

Yes, I remember that Microsoft waited five years and THEN said... "we didn't say that".
