Windows 11
Hello All, I had this weird problem for the past two days on one of my PC. After login Windows is showing a Black screen with a cursor point.

Tried below options by seeing from Youtube and MS Forums

  • Tried to run Explorer through Task Manager but no luck.
  • Safe Mode is also not working After login showing the same black screen.
  • In REGEDIT, checked Shell value name is Explorer.Exe (in WinLogon)
  • Disabled Startup Type in App Readiness service through Task Manager
I tried to Copy Dxgi.dll file to System32 folder but getting the file is already running error so cant copy the file (I updated the permissions to Administrator to copy it to this folder)

After trying all these steps finally I decided to format the System. After completing the format problem was gone.

However, after some time windows installed a few updates and updated NVIDIA graphic drivers and prompted me to restart the PC. When I restarted the PC, Black Screen with cursor issue came again, and don't know what is the actual problem?

Is it my NVIDIA Driver(NVS 300) or any other feature update causing this problem? Now I used the System restore option and went back to before Windows Update.
As there is no graphic driver installed Only One Monitor is working now and that too on Windows Basic Display Driver so the screen is flickering while playing the videos. However, in the background graphic driver is updated but I haven't restarted the system yet. If I restart the system same problem will occur?

What should I do? Can you please advise and provide me with a working solution for this?

If we are discussing the laptop listed in your specs...

I would try the Standard driver first.
Download the driver, and save it to your desktop. Then disconnect the internet.

Then... install the driver and reboot when it asks. Post back here with the results.

Hi, @Ghot Thanks for the reply. This is for my PC not for my laptop. Is this problem due to Graphic driver only? or due to any Windows update?

Installed RAM 16.0 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

Is it my NVIDIA Driver(NVS 300)
However, in the background graphic driver is updated but I haven't restarted the system yet. If I restart the system same problem will occur?

That's a good indication the driver is at fault. The NVS 300 is 12 years old. Since it will BSOD again at next boot, only thing I can suggest is to do another system restore, disable automatic driver updates using Group Policy (this article under section marked How to Stop Windows From Updating Drivers Using Group Policies, and reinstall whatever driver you were using before the crash.

This post needs to be in the BSOD section of the forum. Attention @zbook.

Go here...

and click on "Download latest stable release"
Save it to your desktop and run: WhyNotWin11.exe (it's portable)

What does the DirectX + WDDM2 ...entry, show?

I'm wondering if that may be the beginning and end of the problem.
Windows 11 in general, might have issues with your NVS 300.

What does the DirectX + WDDM2 ...entry, show?

Plz check below screen shot. However, I restared the systema and as of now no issues even after updating the graphic driver through the Windows Update.

Also, I have added DirectX Diagnostic Tool data in a Text File. As per the info, it is showing DirectX Version as = DirectX 12 & WDDm 1.2

Please check once. Thank you!!

I have created the System Restore for now after updating the drivers.
