Windows 11 screen going dark when watching videos

When I watch videos sometimes the entire screen darkens around the video window for a few seconds. This is driving me nuts since it happens no matter what player or browser I use.

If you are running Intel graphics you might try updating to the new intel driver that Brink mentioned in a post today to see if it might help. You can find his post under the Drivers section of this forum.

I haven't see any issues like you describe and I use VLC Media Player for videos. You might try this.
Go to settings-system-about-advanced system settings. Under performance, click settings. Under the visual effect tab there are options for how visual effects are handled.
1. Let windows choose
2. adjust for best appearance
3. Adjust for best performance
4. Custom
Mine is set for adjust for best appearance. I changed it to that because it made the fonts in explorer crisper to see. Whatever yours it set at change it to the other and see if it changes anything. It's worth a shot.

Oh, I forgot to say, you might need to do some tweaking in your Nvidia Control App but if you had no problem in Windows 10, I can't see why you would need to. May I ask what video card you have.

It was already on best appereance by default. I think there was something on KB5008295 since everything started after that update.

You can try uninstalling KB5008295. Click on the Start icon and start typing control panel then click on it. You might may have to click on view large icons. When you get to the Control Panel screen click on Programs and Features > View installed updates. If the update is there you can chose to uninstall it. You can pause updates temporarily to stop it from reinstalling. You can turn updates back on manually when ready or leave it off for the 1 week.

I use VLC but swapping to it I think that is avoiding the issue instead of fixing it

It seems to be Nvidia thing since DDU and roll back 472.12 seems to solve darkening problem. So I must just wait next driver.

There is always the option to switch from Game driver to graphic driver or visa versa, but if you got a driver that works stick with it for a while as there is no great rush to update especially with Nvidia as a lot of their updates are for specific games added
