Hey my pc amd ryzen 3900x few years old and running windows 10 for Nearley 2 half years .

As of lately pc start up very slow I was told to upgrade to win 11 but was also told that to do a fresh install .

But also to be careful the way that I do things bcos for 1 thing the “tpm” not supported for amd .

And not sure exactly the best way to do this and if it will indeed make the Pc work better

Hi there
@Clayton76562

First take backup of existing system so you can restore if things go wrong. Macrium Free is good but any suitable backup and restore program will do.

Now in your case I'd get the latest iso of W10 (W10 is quite decent BTW) and clean install that. - Before trying anything else see after a brand clean install whether W11 will allow an upgrade from W10 -- if it says hardware not sufficient - then unless you want to keep meddling about with trying to bypass hardware restrictions which will get tighter and tighter or go via a Virtual Machine back to a physical one then I'd stay on W10 until you get a new machine.

Get W10 from UUPDUMP,

Once you've got your base system whether W10 or W11 install all your extra stuff again.

If you really want to try W11 - you can di it easily enough as a VM as you can "emulate" the TPM and sec boot requirements and play around with the CPU configuration - although this isn't an easy task for beginners with no experience of creating or using VM's.

The latest W10 release with updates works perfectly -- it's not hugely different to W11 (at least currently) and some prefer it.

I keep a W10 release as well as several W11 releases because some workplaces software wants W10 and "They pay the bills" !!!!!.

Cheers
jimbo

You may not NEED to do a clean install of either OS, unless you have some major hardware degradation it is likely the slowdown is simply due to an excess of start up apps/ services as you have installed software over the years.
If you start in safe mode or with a new user profile is it still as slow?
What type of disks are you using? If still HDDs have you ever defragmented them?
If using SSDs how full are they as they tend to slow down when reaching a certain amount of allocation (depending on model 75 - 80% full or more, as an example).
There may be other reasons for the slowdown that could be easily remedied without going through the process of clean installing, although sometimes a clean install can be the best option.
If you want the best chance of an easy time installing then I would suggest, as Jimbo45 does, that you stick with Win10 and just use the latest image, whether from UUPDUMP or using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, either are perfectly valid options.
Things to be aware of, it might be a good idea to backup/ export your current drivers (method can be found on these forums) as well as a system image as Jimbo45 suggests.
If this machine is a laptop then depending on the age you may find the manufacturers support page lacking for drivers so check before proceeding so you are aware of any potential issues coming up.
Make sure you have all your application codes, passwords, usernames and other login details backed up for any sites/ services/ software you use.

No need for clean installation. I switched from FX 6350 to 4 different Ryzen models and W7/8/19 to W11 without clean install processors were always properly recognized and used.
But..... TPM has to be enabled as well as windows installed in UEFI mode on GPT disk.
Ps. TPM is supported on Ryzen 2000, 3000 and 5000 series.

But also to be careful the way that I do things bcos for 1 thing the “tpm” not supported for amd .

I have Ryzen 3900x on Gigabyte Aorus Master X570 motherboard. TPM is supported and included in the firmware.
Make sure you have updated the UEFI BIOS to the latest stable version - you should find that TPM is then turned on. Otherwise, if you stick with an older BIOS you will need to root around in the UEFI to find where to turn it on.

I have also found that boot time suddenly increases about once a month or so, for no obvious reason. Reapplying the BIOS settings fixes it, and it goes back to rebooting normally.

I upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 with no problem, and have recently replaced the System drive, all without doing a clean install. Everything is very stable.

Good luck.

Dell says this system is not Windows 11 capable, but Microsoft seems happy with it.
had this desktop pc for 2 and half Years running windows 10 . As of lately the pc takes 2 and a half mins before windows loads up . Then when logging in the desktop hangs and takes mins before all icons load . Then when restarting takes like 3-4 mins before it restarts .

I have had a several professional people in different ways to diagnose an issue with my problems . malware bytes techs / also seagate and wd hard hdd health checks

Paid / open source / sys internals / freeware apps to check most common issues processes start up etc

My system is connected to an icy box with 10 hard drives . 60TB all up .

When I turn the icy box off and just turn pc on it boots straight away and loads and restarts within 45 Seconds

I was told to do a test with just os c drive and ruled out the actual hdd damage

I seek more help in finding best way to go about next step . I was told to try windows 11 but the tpm with amd ryzen has the error and also says can cause more errors if trying to bypass and foodle with the bios ?

Was told a fresh install of windows should fix problems but amd ryzen bios settings and drivers and registry settings can become more issues ?

If you have USB connected devices at startup they can cause drastic slowdowns on boot.

Whoever told you that AMD Ryzen does not support TPM is simply wrong.

Well, you nailed the problem, those 60TB on remote connection that has to be re-initiated every time. Other than that it's all fine.

IMO, this indicates there is a problem within your Windows 10 installation (ie corrupted files,) Whether you stay with Windows 10 or go to 11, for sure you want to do a clean install. Here are some straightforward answers to your issue. Decide which way you want to go and follow the tutorial.

To try to fix your existing Windows 10 installation,
Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow

To keep Windows 10

Hey bro I was told that usb Aswell and checked . Would u know if win 10 or 11 with fresh install is best to proceed with ?
It's entirely your choice. I went with Windows 11 and it's good.

Here's my TPM status on my Ryzen PC:

Dell says this system is not Windows 11 capable, but Microsoft seems happy with it.
I would think the issue is with those 10 drives and USB, check that the USB port the Icy Box is connected to is not set to save power and is on when booting.
Or, try a different USB3 port.

And as a thought, might want to check those 10 drives, may have one with problems, a bad disk can slow down the PC booting even if external to the PC.

Ryzen7 3800X here upgraded from Ryzen5 1600 and then upgraded from Win10 to Win11 and it's fine, no boot delay external drives connected or not.

As usual it seems the OP decided to state an issue and only include system specs as windows 10, other than including his CPU in the actual post. After several replies based on 'best guess', including mine, the OP then decides to let us know he has 10 external drives connected by USB, this information being offered earlier could have saved a lot of guess work and possibly inappropriate advice.
Any one else browsing this thread and thinking of asking for help, please include your FULL system specs to both save time and get better targeted advice, as I believe you are prompted to do when you register.
Rant over.

No, it really isn't enough. I agree with @DigitalGoat. We have to know what we are dealing with BEFORE we can give the right advice. Compatibility with 11 was not all the OP was interested in. If his boot is slow someone would have advised him right off the bat to first disconnect external drives and see if it made a difference (It would)...had we had that information.

Regarding clean installing 10 or 11, we would have advised him is to disconnect all the external drives before attempting a clean install. Not doing so could have gotten him into a world of hurt.

Unless your current OS is running perfectly, I would do a clean install.
A clean install is really easy and fast since W10 and W11. It's hard to beat that option.

Why complicate such simple thing.
Ryzen 3900x system is completely compatible with W10 and 11. W10 Settings > Windows update will show if it's eligible or not. It's enough to start upgrade from there and W11 will be downloaded and upgraded. No need to disconnect anything even in case of clean install as it will not even been seen by installation routine.
Slow BOOT is due to external storage, no matter what, upgrade or clean install and I already advised him to keep it off until really needed.
