Windows 11
I have 2 computers, both running Windows 11.

My old one (which is still modern, is a Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite v1, i9-9900k, 3080OC on Windows 11 latest Windows Updates).
My new one (which wont recognize my BR player/burner, is a MSI PRO Z790-P WIFI, i9-14900KF, 4090 on Windows 11 latest Windows Updates).

First, the blu ray player WORKS and so does the external USB connector. I just tested it on my old PC and it picks it up in the Device Manager as a CD/DVD Rom drive, and it recognized a CD and a empty Blu Ray disc.

On my new PC I can't get it to do anything except recognize the USB controller as (Other Devices). And in "This PC" it shows CD Drive (E:) but when I click on the icon it says: "Please insert a disk into CD Drive (E:)."

I searched the web and plenty of people are having problems with recognizing external USB DVD/BR players on Windows 11. I found an old driver made for Win 8 for the exact specific model and tried installing it manually in Device manager but it says it's not "needed".

I tried looking to see if theres any services that are disabled that are limiting my player from working, I can't seem to understand why it wouldn't work on my new pc. It's an iBuyPower.

I uninstalled the driver and then rebooted and no go.
I looked in BIOS and all my usb's are enabled and there seems to be nothing limiting my needs here.
I looked in Windows Update and Additional Updates and I have everything.
I tried opening MSI Center which is software iBuyPower gave me with my PC to see if there's any updates to my mainboard or something. I'm thinking it has to do with Gigabyte VS MSI or something.
I have all the latest Intel updates in Intel Driver and Support Assistant

I added the regedit Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0 EnumDevice1 (1)

Can I get some pro technical support from you computer enthusiasts as to what you would do?

Yes, "it recognized a CD and a empty Blu Ray disc.", an Audio CD worked on old PC and an empty blu ray disc was recognized as correctly labeled.

Seems to be a problem with modern Windows 11 updates.

Do you think I should try to take my device to my old PC and update the firmware on it?

I'm seeing a ton of people with the same issue as me on Google.

iBuyPower is closed at this time but i will call them tomorrow and see if they know what kind of tweaks they made to the OS when they installed it. Maybe they can help. Can it seriously be a Serial USB thing between Gigabyte and MSI motherboards? It's the same OS release I believe... Or maybe if I can roll back my OS version.

my old pc is in a friends room, and I will have to get back to you on that. But yes, it recognized Windows Media Player as a Audio CD so I'm sure it would have played it, but I am going to double check later.

to update you I joined the windows insider program and I'm going to try to get in beta updates and see if anything changes.

Hope you made an image backup first.
If it plays on the Win 11 computer, why worry about the label? Does it actually burn?

The external BD-R USB drive requires a USB 3.0 port (blue plastic). If you use a faster USB 3.1 or 3.2 port it might be some incompatibility. Try using a USB 3.0 port if you have one. Try a different USB port.
