Windows blocking HTTP sites

My desktop PC running Win 11 22H2 22624.1755 is refusing to connect to any http site from any browser that I install which suggests it is not browser related. I am able to open the sites on my phone (iPhone 2020 SE) using Edge, chrome or Safari without issue using WiFi only therefore it is not network related but Windows refuses point blank.

I have disabled the firewall (Windows Defender) to see if this was causing the issue but it did not sure the issue. I have also run the network troubleshoot and that found no issues. Inetcpl.cpl shows that HTTP is being used.

The “ERR_CONNECTION_RESET” error, means that your browser can’t establish a connection to the remote server. In most cases, it’s due to a misconfiguration in your internet settings or something else that’s blocking the connection.

If you are using VPN uninstall it to see issue resolves.

Reset your TCP/IP settings.

Clear your browser cache.

Disable your proxy server.

@FreeBooter just tried what you suggest and unfortunately still exactly the same

Have you tried different web browsers in Windows 11 to see issue resolves?

Open Settings --> Network & Internet --> Advanced network settings --> Network reset and click Reset now button.

Also execute below command:


Reboot your computer.

Still no joy. also done network reset

I have tried Edge, Edge Beta, Chrome and an old version of Safari - same result on all.

Have you checked your computer for malware infections?

The DNS used in DHCP as provided by my ISP (Vodafone) is working perfectly on another PC, iPhone and iPad ergo that is not the issue.

We have reset TCP/IP protocol configurations and reset network settings, so it's not one of those you can if you want clean boot Windows 11 to see any one of the startup programs or services causing the problem.

Have you scanned for corrupted Windows 11 system files using Sfc /scannow command?

If that does not work, you can try repair install Windows 11.

Either way, you can try to access them using TOR, it creates it's own network bypassing several problems.

I know what the websites are, that is why I am trying to access them

I dont want to bypass the problems as that only leaves them for later and creates more issues, I simply want to fix them

The issue is that they are still using http in 2023, while SSL certificates are free.
Browsers are slowly dropping support for http and this is only the side effect.

It isn’t a problem on another Win11 pc running the same version of windows and much the same programs, it isn’t a problem on my phone or tablet - it is ONLY a problem for one machine.

Here's my Edge. I get the same response in Firefox. Click on advanced to get to the site. What is happening on http sites is normal. The problem is not in Windows or your browsers. It's with the site you are trying to get to. Https is now the norm.

Why does another pc using the same windows build using the same network manage to get to the sites without issue?

It is a problem with one PC, not with the websites, internet or deprecation of http.

Then you have changed the default security settings of your browser on the other machine. Know that changing this policy will affect the security feature for ALL websites so IMO it's not worth it for a few sites that have not incorporated https for their sites. However the choice is yours.

I tried the links in Edge Canary and they opened without even getting a warning.

I must have changed them in 4 different browsers then because they all work correctly (which I didn’t)
