Hi

I start to get this message for all exe in my USB external HDD but if I moved the exe into my internal drives it run fine !!. I granted "everyone" full control access but did not solve it, any ideas ?

I have External USB drives and seldom have the problem but on occasion get the same type message when trying to open files in a program, usually office-type files. I can even run .exe programs for install from my NAS drive. It usually is because the files came from a 'foreign' computer.

I tried to update a diagnostic yesterday [that I've used for more than 15 years] from within the program but it called up Edge, one of the new things after Internet Explorer going away, Edge's security blocked it and had no option to do it anyway. I had to copy the URL and put it Firefox to get the download, obviously Edge is "helping" us in its own way.

It may not be the permission of the executable, but the permission of the folder that the executable is trying to run from,m that may be the issue. Also, are these portable programs that are made to run from any folder, or just programs that you've manually copied from their default installation locations to the USB drive?

I granted the permission of the parent folder and even the whole drive. They are setup files should run from anywhere.

But you granted permissions to yourself, whereas setup files need access via .. .SYSTEM level (or, probably TrustedInstaller, to be accurate) permissions. Being a USB drive, it might be problematic either from that perspective, or simply from the fact that security is preventing installations from running from USB devices in general to help prevent malware infections.

I tried again with normal exe app I got same error. System and my user admin also have full control access permission

SO, I searched around and found a lot of different answers.

1) Check your Antivirus solution (if you're using a 3rd party solution) to see if it is blocking access to run executables form the USB drive.

2) Are you logged in with a Microsoft account or a 'local only' account?

3) Do you have the Multipoint Coonector feature enabled in Windows Features?

Open Start menu --> type Windows Features --> Select Turn Windows Features on and off --> scroll down to this:

If it is enabled, disable, then reboot, and see if you can run them from the USB now or not.

1- antivirus disabled and still same problem
2- Microsoft account
3- Multipoint Coonector feature enabled

What I meant was to try disabling Multipoint Connector, as that was reported by one user as fixing your exact issue.
