I was attempting to troubleshoot an issue in a game I'm playing by starting in safe mode and seeing if the problem persisted. Unfortunately, when I restart in safe mode with networking, my MS account password is "incorrect". It works fine when I start normally. It's been a good while since I tried to use safe mode so I don't know if this is particular to Win 11 or if it would have happened in Win 10 as well, but I would like to resolve it. Has anyone else experience this?

I hadn't tried safe mode in a good while too, but it let me right in. How are you initiating safe mode? I get to it through my boot menu.

Could you not set up a PIN to sign in with? The pin is stored in the TPM so no network access is required to sign in. If you forget the pin you can just say so and it will instead ask for your MS account password.

Problem solved, sort of. I was entering safe mode by going through "advanced startup options in Setting-Recovery, then restarting, choosing troubleshooting, working through there, restarting, and choosing safe mode from the menu. When I do that, it brings me to the regular log in screen where I enter my password, except I'm in safe mode now. And when I enter my password in the box I get the "incorrect password" error.

Below the box for the password are two icons, one for Windows Hello and one for the password option. All I had to do was click on the password option and then enter my password - into the same password entry box as before - and I got in. So I guess I should have figured it out before, but geez. The same icons are on the log in screen in normal windows mode and I don't have to click on the "password" icon before entering my password. I know for a fact that I've never had to do that before to get into safe mode, although like I said, it's been a good while.

Anyway, I appreciate the suggestions and help. Thanks folks!
