Windows search box closes whenever I start query with M

I'm not sure if others are having this issue or if I might have inadvertently set the letter M as a shortcut for an app running in the background - but everytime I start a search query with the letter "M" in the Windows Search Box that appears from either clicking the START button or the Magnifying Glass next to it, the box collapses. So if I want to bring up something like "Macrium", the moment I start typing, the box closes. (other than that, nothing else happens on my system)

Is this happening to anyone else?
If not, what would be some ways to troubleshoot?

Try an in-place upgrade, and if that doesn’t work create a new profile - the current one could be corrupted.

Just a thought. Make sure that you are not accidentally bumping the CRTL key when you type M. If I am not mistaken, sometimes CTRL-M is processed as an ENTER or RETURN key press.

I could be wrong, but I think I remember a modifier key and M is processed as a return. That will kill your search box for sure.

I would recommend the former, rather than the latter.
But before that, I would disable all my startup items; -Settings/APPS/Startup APPS, then restart.
Restart the apps one by one until the 'M' issue manifests itself.
You might catch the guilty process that way. If that does not work, see James' suggestion.

I don't particularly get how you could accidentally bump CTRL - atleast on my keyboard M and ctrl (both left and right) are miles away from eachother. On my windows CTRL + M does nothing in search.

Google reckons 56 hrs.

When looking for an image to use as the keyboard, the keyboard I found has M and ctrl very close. This must be american layout.



I see slightly more how bumping could be possible here - BUT, when you search and "accidentally" click CTRL + M, absolutely nothing happens.
