Windows Server 20H2 End of servicing on August 9, 2022

  • Staff
On August 9, 2022, all editions of Windows Server, version 20H2 will reach end of servicing. The upcoming August 2022 security update, to be released on August 9, 2022, will be the last update available for this version. After that date, devices running this version will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates containing protection from the latest security threats.

This will also be the retirement of Windows Server Semi-Annual Channel (SAC). There will be no future SAC releases of Windows Server. Windows Server is moving to the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) as the primary release channel.

Customers using Windows Server SAC should move to Azure Stack HCI. Alternatively, customers may use the Long-Term Servicing Channel of Windows Server. For more information, see Windows Server Release Information.

W2K22 server is brilliant - I'm using the free 180 day evaluation of standard desktop version and have converted it into a workstation OS -- probably not what Ms intended !!! but it's mega fast, no bloat and everything works including webcams, blu tooth, wifi, games (yes on a Server !!), and minimal bloat. If only standard W10 or W11 had been even half as good.

This system is even giving my Linux NAS a run for its money and for once Windows Networking seems to work straight out of the box -- a first or record for Windows Networking !!!.

If you do install from the iso via dism /Apply-Image for the desktop GUI versions -- Index-2 for the standard version and index=4 for the datacentre version - but you probably won't want the data centre version when using this as a workstation OS on a small laptop. !!!

Not sure though that this type of desktop is what Ms intended for this server !!!! running on a smallish intel 5 8 gen processor on an HP envy laptop. !!

But let's face it - most of us on these Forums are slightly bonkers anyway -- I'm sure @Edwin would agree !!!

Cheers
