Hello Mr @Brink,

I updated to the 1.17.11391.0. The new acrylic title bar feature is great

(I was waiting for it). Do you know how we can get the clock at the beginning of the prompt (and that green highlight)? I have seen this image on the Neowin, and I like it.

That's part of the settings for the prompt, which can be altered using the "prompt" command.

Here is a sample:

prompt $T$H$H$H$S$P$G

Run "prompt /?" for help with syntax.

To make this permanent, follow these steps:

1) Press WinKey + Pause. This should take you to the System > About page.

2) Select "Advanced system settings".

3) Go to the "Advanced" tab and select "Environment variables".

4) Under "User variables" or "System variables", create a new variable named "PROMPT" and set it to your desired settings.

EDIT: BTW, the default is "PROMPT $P$G"

From the command line, type "color /?".

I believe that will give you what you are looking for but I have not yet experimented with it.

Great discussion! There are some items here that I was curious about but had not gotten around to playing with.

Turns out that a long time ago (think DOS), you could change the color of text in the prompt with ANSI escape codes. Then, for a couple of decades, Microsoft removed that capability. Now it is back!

Try this as an example:

Note that the first command ensures that the prompt itself is blue on black, then changes back to white on black so what you type will still be white on black.

The second command is changing my prompt back to white on black.

Color attributes are specified by TWO hex digits -- the first
corresponds to the background; the second the foreground. Each digit
can be any of the following values:

0 = Black 8 = Gray
1 = Blue 9 = Light Blue
2 = Green A = Light Green
3 = Aqua B = Light Aqua
4 = Red C = Light Red
5 = Purple D = Light Purple
6 = Yellow E = Light Yellow
7 = White F = Bright White

If no argument is given, this command restores the color to what it was
when CMD.EXE started. This value either comes from the current console
window, the /T command line switch or from the DefaultColor registry
value.

The COLOR command sets ERRORLEVEL to 1 if an attempt is made to execute
the COLOR command with a foreground and background color that are the
same.

Just note that this applies to the "color" command. The ANSI escape sequence color numbers are different.

Lost the date as prompt and white text paler. Easily enough to restore again though,

It's mainly the border of the text colour rather than the text. Managed it on PowerShell through perseverance :woozy:

On the same web page I linked to earlier (ANSI Escape Codes) I tried the 256 color section and that works as well.

Sorry, missed that part of the OP. From this site - Use ANSI colors in the terminal - Windows CMD - SS64.com - it would just be a matter of changing the ANSI codes to use the background one instead of the foreground one. For example, for a green background:

$ESC = [char]27
$BGREEN = $ESC + "[1;32m"

would become:
