Hi all.

I recently updated my windows 11 pro laptop to from 23H2 to 24H2 - mainly as I had some bluescreen errors - but have had a bit of a nightmare since.

The main issue is that during the update it automatically created an entirely new user with the name 'MyName_1v8th6u' and in doing so meant I had to reinstall a number of apps etc..

I now have two user folders:

c:\users\MyName (which I can't login as)
c:\users\MyName_1v8th6u

When I login it defaults to 'Other User' with no login details, meaning I have to select the correct user from the bottom left.

The MyName user is also taking up 200Gb of storage.

Any and all ideas welcome. I'm fairly proficient :-)

Thanks

This is known as a temporary profile. Something went wrong with loading MyName, and Windows created a temporary user MyName_1v8th6u so you can at least logon and attempt repairs. You're really not suppose to recreate your old user from scratch from the temporary profile.

Here's a tutorial on trying to recover your old profile:

Good luck!
