I want my Windows Update back on start menu but cannot see how, trawled a few posts but definitive answer not spotted. I often do manual checks and want this back.

You could used the method in the tutorial below to add a Windows Update shortcut to the Start Menu > All Apps list.

Windows Update shortcut: ms-settings:windowsupdate

Once you have it in All apps, you can pin it to Start from there. You can also do that from a shortcut on your desktop, as I have done.

When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October.

You'll need to create the Windows Update shortcut to drag into programs. :)

Create a shortcut on your desktop for ms-settings:windowsupdate and name it Windows Update.

Move it to your user's start menu/programs folder.

Restart the PC and it will appear in All apps. Right-click on it to pin to Start.

If you dragged the actual shortcut to the Programs folder, it should have worked.

hahah!! ok I'm a dummy!!!! Serious reprimand in order. SMACK! I DIDN'T reboot after putting the link into the programs list.... It works perfectly now in Start Menu. My mind does not work like it did a few centuries ago. THANKS to you all

Restart the PC and it will appear in All apps. Right-click on it to pin to Start.

I did have to restart Explorer.exe to get it to appear in All apps before I could pin it to Start.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October.
