Hi, I'm looking advice on how to connect my Xbox one series s wireless controller to my windows 11 laptop.

I've purchased an older (official) wireless reciever which is either broken or no longer supported. There's an absolute ton of knock offs around but I can't find any official microsoft wireless recievers on sale anywhere.

Please could anyone help.

I have a couple Xbox One wireless controllers that I use with my Windows 10 & 11 computers. I use them with Bluetooth on my computers. The main disadvantage with this is I can't use a headset plugged into them. If I did I would have bought the Microsoft Xbox One wireless adapters. I see them for sale on the Amazon (US) website. For example, Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows.
Note you need the adapter for the Microsoft Xbox One controller. The older ones for the original Xbox controller don't work.

I have two Xbox One wireless Grey/Green controllers. They originally were introduced with the Xbox One S.

Ah, so to simplify, if I just buy an xbox one s controller it should connect to my laptop via bluetooth right away without needing a wireless dingle at all?

I have found that the Xbox Controllers occasionally have firmware revisions. To check and update the firmware:
Connect your controller to a PC using the USB cable
  1. Launch the Xbox Accessories app
  2. Click on "..."
  3. At the upper left it will say "Update now" if there is a firmware update
I first found out about this when I first bought my controllers. They kept disconnecting. Microsoft support told me to try updating the firmware. I did and that fixed the problem. I am surprised that they needed a firmware update so soon because I bought the controllers from the Microsoft store.
