On the other hand, the RTX 3090 launched at $1999, and the original 10GB RTX 3080, $600. (Suggested MSRPs.) Committed PC gamers have had to pony up for a while.:(

The 3090 didn't launch MSRP at $1999, I don't believe. I think it was $1499 and people just paid extra for it as scalpergate immediately happened.

That is possible and would draw the price up even more. The MSRP for the 3080 was $699, but now they are talking $899 to $1199.

I think part of the reason the 30 series did so well is that peformance did go way up, but prices actually went down from previous gen's. Of course, these more reasonable prices ensured none of us could actually get our hands on a part for quite some time...so not much of a real advantage.

And being that I haven't bought a card other than EVGA for almost 20 years, leaves me just sad at this point for the next purchase.

You're correct. My memory was mistaken.

$1999 was for the 3090 ti. (Now available for less than $1100. How the mighty are fallen. :-) )
