Outlook (IMAP) Log In Failed?

For the past few days, my Outlook/Live Mail fails to log in (0x800CCC0F) intermittently at times. Then sometimes, it is fine. Anyone else having issues of late? The same/similar thing happened a few months back and was widespread, before it was fixed after like a week or so. Just wondering if I'm not the only one? I can't see anything recent online anywhere at the moment.

I haven't, no. I have 6 Outlook accounts, a few Live accounts and one Hotmail account, all are working just fine.

Have a go with the following:

You can run the SFC /scannow command from any console, including the command prompt, PowerShell, or Windows Terminal. Open one of these as Admin and type or past that command and press enter, then wait for it to finish.
Then, run the following command. DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Open search on your PC, type CMD. Right click on the Icon and “Open as admin”

Type (or copy and paste) the following command”

SFC /scannow

Press enter and be patient.

When completed, type (or copy and paste) the following command:

Code:

DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Press enter and be patient.

Reboot your PC

What with or how are you accessing your mail, online or with an email client on your PC, if from an email app on your PC, can you be specific with which one?

On my phone it works and via a browser. It's just using Windows Live Mail it keeps on happening. It's been fine for months, and but now it's started happening for some reason.

“Windows Live Mail” is discontinued. I’d suggest using Outlook in Windows?
Microsoft Mail App however is still available in Windows but you will constantly get nagged to change to Outlook, more specifically the New Outlook.

All these names and mail programs are rather confusing. These days, or currently it’s easier to identify them as ICONS, as at least they vaguely vary. lol

When setting up the settings, what's the difference between: imap-mail.outlook.com vs outlook.office365.com? Which is better?

Which app did you decide to use?

Office 365 is subscription but to be honest, I don’t believe it matters. Either one? They both should work but if using Office 365 (now called Microsoft 365) personally I’d use outlook.office365.com.
Otherwise like I said I am not sure it matters.
The new Outlook possibly uses outlook.office365.com

If it’s an Outlook.Com email address it should just auto configure. Just put in your address & password when adding it to the app (which app?)

I still use the Windows Live Mail app. Even though it's years old, I've always preferred it. It shouldn't matter as the imap settings are the same as if I was using Outlook/a newer app. I also use my old Hotmail email address.

It's kind of risky as it’s not supported or updated. I certainly wouldn’t personally use it.

It doesn’t matter that it’s a Hotmail account that I know of. Same settings.

I also use like two-step verification, where rather than use my basic Hotmail password, I use a generated one that I copy and paste into Live Mail. I've even tried that, and the error keeps popping up where it fails to log in.

The last bit of advice I’ll give you is stop using Windows Like Mail. It’s archaic and unsupported. Its End of Life was in June 2016, that’s 8 years ago.
If you were to do a search in here for Windows Live Mail, you’ll see members mentioning the same thing.

You say you’re using 2FA in the Live Mail but you’re using your phone to get mail also. Live Mail won’t work on your phone so what are you using on your phone? Are you using 2FA in your phones mail app? If not, why bother using it with Live Mail?

Everything I know about your problem stopped when you used those magic words, Windows Live Mail. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help but as far as I know, your problem starts and ends with the mail client you’re using, WLM.
