Why does anybody ever use that site any more (and it's shares are going up on the market) -- Well there's I suppose people who make millions of dollars on the shortcomings of others.

I can't believe it but if you look for how to enable Sound on Windows 2022 LTSC server posts were telling people to login via RDP etc etc.

It's a simple SERVICE -- just enable it in services -- besides if I'm logged on to my server why would I want to use RDP !!!! (from where to where !!).

Remember when Gartner was regarded as the fount of all things wise with Windows --in fact if you did the exact opposite of what they advised you were around 75% more correct.

I'd advise any Forum members wanting solutions to look ANYWHERE first before even thinking about using Reddit.

Cheers

You might mix up 2 situations.

1, If you sit next to hardware and run it physically on that machine. Then yeah you do it without RDP.
2. When you have a machine that is only available trough remote control. Or for example running it under hyper-v, you'll have to do it with RDP.

However i do agree, that to many search results put up the wrong anwser on top of everything. 20years ago it was easyer to find the right awser.

Reddit, like other community-based forums, is good as the contributors there. I've seen equally as bad and nonsensical advice on this forum, and many other technical forums as well.

I've been at Reddit and the only problem I have, were people dumping on the Alienware AW3423DWF OLED monitor. I dunno why they were on the "Alienware AW3423DWF hate train".

Reddit is just a blur. Most posters just sound frustrated to the point of being ill-informed. I suspect the site moderation to be weak and posts frequently get spammed by people who are merely pushing their own IT services business without actually answering the question. Just a viscous circle. I can sympathize with any feelings of disbelief. There again I do find people on Reddit with rare issues that aren't discussed on other forums. That helps confirm that others have same issue as me, which can be something of a life saver on those rare occasions.

Googling I sometimes get sent to Reddit for answers. I do not have a Reddit account. I do see posted quite often that Reddit is sometimes useful for certain tech support options which appear more helpful than non Reddit sources. For example I see posts suggesting posting issues on Reddit industry forums. Xfinity for instance. Many times these posts get official support faster than elsewhere.

Yes, the presence of manufacturers subreddits do seem to establish some kind of order to the behaviour on the Reddit forum. The influence doesn't permeate throughout the rest of the platform, though. Only remains influential on the specific subreddit. If you post on a platform like Reddit, then anybody can respond. This means you can receive replies quicker than at an official forum, where only authorised posters are encouraged to answer. If that was what you were suggesting.

So true. Have also felt the same. Reddit and it's grand dad... Microsoft.com forum. Both give quite wrong advices. And Google actually ranks those answers higher. It's like all 3 of them work hard to make sure people waste lots of time.
