If they got signed in with a temp profile due to a corruption that happened, noticed their files were missing, and then copied all their files from their user profile folder to the desktop of the temp profile, that would explain why they lost everything.

what app are you using when your signing in?
This error is related to for example, an old email app that is trying to sign you in with outdated security protocols. As in the app itself is not passing the new security requirements to forward the creds to the provider.
It should work to sign in...

Thanks. Yeah it looks like this whole time from doing more research I misunderstood what windows terminal was.
I viewed it as an all in one command line tool. Which I guess is true in a way, you can choose from all the command (terminal/shells?) that you want.
