mb is asus PRIME B450M-A and m.2 drive is a samsung. i would expect some kind of error message saying cannot find boot drive or something besides a black screen. and yes i did remove the 500g drive first as this board only has 1 m.2 slot

Does "working fine" mean that you can boot that "different PC" with it? yes it boots up and works normally in a different pc.

i hesitate to wipe the cloned drive and start over with a restore as it is working in another pc. i will pick up another drive and try your suggestion, thank you very much for the help.

i currently have the original 500g drive installed and everything works fine as before i started. and the cloned 2tb drive is currently working fine in a different pc. very strange

well that won't work as there is no signal to the display with the new 2tb ssd installed in the m.2 slot. and i know the clone worked ok since it will boot up and run fine from a usb enclosure and in a different pc.

i used easeus partition master to clone a 2tb m.2 ssd from a 500g m.2. cloning went fine with no errors but when i reolaced the old drive with the new one, all drives and fans spin up and it seems to boot but no signal to the display. to shut it down i had to hold power button like it was fully...
