no signal to display after cloning m.2

i used easeus partition master to clone a 2tb m.2 ssd from a 500g m.2. cloning went fine with no errors but when i reolaced the old drive with the new one, all drives and fans spin up and it seems to boot but no signal to the display. to shut it down i had to hold power button like it was fully booted but no signal to the display. put the old drive back and everything worked fine. the new drive will boot up from a usb enclosure and it will work in a different pc so i know the drive is fine. just no signal to display in original pc. any ideas?

You could double check that the clone worked well.

1. Get some 3rd party backup software, like Macrium Reflect... Reflect Free v8.0 Download Agent
2. Make sure to make the Macrium bootable rescue media.
3. Make a FULL "disk" backup of the 500GB M.2
4. Install the 2TB M.2 and "restore" the backup to the 2TB drive.
5. Then, if everything works... use your EaseUS PM to clean up the 2TB drive as needed.

How to use backup software... 1. When everything is working perfectly... make a full Windows backup. 2. Then, if something breaks... restore from the latest backup. 3. Then... try "whatever you were doing" a different way. If it still breaks Windows, then... go to step #2. 4. Repeat...

well that won't work as there is no signal to the display with the new 2tb ssd installed in the m.2 slot. and i know the clone worked ok since it will boot up and run fine from a usb enclosure and in a different pc.

Take out the 2TB, and put the 500GB back in.

Do the above, and see what happens.

The only other thing I can think of is that you bumped the vid card or the RAM, when you were changing the M.2 drives. Try re-seating the vid card and the RAM.

Black screen (no video), can be be caused by either the vid card or the RAM not being seated properly.

That's why I suggested you do a backup and restore, rather than a clone.

i hesitate to wipe the cloned drive and start over with a restore as it is working in another pc. i will pick up another drive and try your suggestion, thank you very much for the help.

Another option would be to just return the 2TB M.2 drive and replace it with a 2TB 2.5" drive.
Your Windows drive doesn't need to be 2TB... 500GB is fine.

Just install large programs or large games on a 2.5" SSD (2TB) instead.

I really never understood the need for M.2 drives.

I use a 500Gb 2.5" SSD for my Windows drive and hard drives for storage.
And they can already do everything faster than I can.

Does "working fine" mean that you can boot that "different PC" with it?

Did you remove the 500GB drive? You may not want to have two boot drive installed at the same time.

Did you check the specs of the computer to verify it can handle a 2tb drive? Some motherboards have limitations. If you do not know how to do this please post the make and model of the system that won't work with the drive. Also the make/model of the drive itself.

asus PRIME B450M-A and m.2 drive is a samsung. i would expect some kind of error message saying cannot find boot drive or something besides a black screen. and yes i did remove the 500g drive first as this board only has 1 m.2 slot

Crucial lists some 4TB M.2 drives. (They guarantee compatibility.)

I'm running out of inane suggestions.

The last one: clear the CMOS.

I've needed to do that when swapping graphics cards, but never an M.2 drive (so far).

@Blazer2024 Here is the section of your motherboard manual regarding storage. Also the NOTE that is included. I do not see a limitation of nvme capacity.
But do you have a drive connected to sata port 5/6? see note #2.
