@Ghot Thanks for the Karen's recc. I installed it when I was initially setting up the machine, but ultimately decided I liked FreeFileSync better. No, I don't remember why - that was a very busy, full, and stressful year ago. My recollection is that they were similar. FFS doesn't have a...
I made two mistakes when I unboxed and set up this PC. The first was allowing it to set up OneDrive and then not uninstalling it immediately. The second was not partitioning the drive. By the time I reached those conclusions, there was so much water under the bridge that I decided to leave...
@glasskuter My desktop backup drive has quite a bit of stuff on it other than the backups. If I rotate it offsite, I'd have to do more copying to bring the incoming drive (formerly offsite) up to current contents. Compared to my current routine, that sorta seems like six of one and half dozen of...
@glasskuter I'd be lucky if I generate 1GB of data a day. Probably more like 100-200MB. I've always assumed the daily 3GB-ish size was due to various Windows page files and such. Yes, a full restore on the 28th day of the cycle would be a PITA. Until I got this computer, my backup routine was...
I run a full image monthly, then an incremental every day. The incremental is usually 3-6 GB, unless there's a Windows update, then it's maybe 10-15 GB.
But.
Every single day, Macrium creates both the regular small incremental AND a big one, say 50 to 60 GB. Then, the next day, it deletes...
I run a daily Macrium incremental backup, saving it to a new (subjectively fast) external desktop USB drive. Once a week, I copy that week's incrementals to a Samsung T7 Shield SSD drive that lives offsite. The daily incrementals are usually about 3 to 5 GB.
Starting about a month ago, each...
Yeah, I know, not exactly a Win 11 question, but...
I'm not using OneDrive at all and don't plan on starting. I'm looking into using the MS Android apps for Word and Excel on my new Lenovo tablet. At startup, they want the user to log in to "access your documents from any device with...
I'm so thankful for all the help I've gotten here with moving from Win 7 to Win 11 earlier this year. Not having much hair to start with, it was a blessing not to have to pull more of it out.
Merry Christmas to all!
I left my Samsung T7 in my car overnight. It got down to maybe high 30s F. Brought it inside, plugged it in. Wouldn't even connect. Waited 5 minutes and it connected, but generally acted flaky. Waited another 15 minutes and it finally worked right. It just had a bit of a chill.
I did a little searching and saw that. Still a bit amazed, considering I paid $70 less than a year ago for a nice 2100 joule Tripp-Lite with 8 110v AC outlets and 2 USB ports. Think I'll look into that a bit more. I assume it needs installing by an electrician.
If I had one of those on the...
@TechnoMage2021
1924 house = cast iron everywhere. Water and radiator heat both.
I spent a lot of time Googling about putting UPS and surge protectors in series, and found as many well-considered articles for as against. Do you have a definitive reference?
Interesting comment about the...
Yikes! those suckas are steep. I've got a nice Tripp-Lite, just barely a year old. Gonna do some continuity investigations, but that's gotta wait a day or two. Thanks, all.
