BINGO! I was reading some article at the MS Windows KB site and happened to fall upon that solution, activating SVM in the UEFI settings, and it worked. Thank you everyone, especially FreeBooter and LeLibran who also hit upon the solution. WSL Ubuntu is now working.

When I used that command, it didn't work. The command I used installed ubuntu but when I clicked on the ubuntu icon, I got the message you see in the op. It seems that there's "required feature" that isn't installed. I tried 'wsl update' and it updated but ubuntu still gives me the same error...

No, I was using 'wsl --install -d ubuntu' in the administrator terminal.
