    I booted into Linux Mint from a USB and set the lid close action to hibernate and it also didn't work so I guess it must be a hardware failure.

    I have changed the settings in powershell with powercfg and it is reflected in advanced power settings in the control panel and but still it doesn't hibernate.

    I am trying to fix a problem for a friend so I don't know when this started. I had suggested to her maybe the switch in the hinge is broken but a local repair person said it's a software issue. I reset Windows with a cloud download but kept personal files so it wasn't a proper clean install...
