This may seem a somewhat silly question but Windows has SFC and DISM which are supposed to sort out problems with file corruptions. If a repair install ensures all files are correct what are SFC and DISM not doing. If the repair install is making changes in the registry why isn't there a...
I have been taking Dev builds which are ahead of the Beta channel. I am thinking it might make sense to switch to Beta but I won't be able to do that until there is a Beat build at the same or lower build level to the one I'm currently on.
Indeed, that is what I have done. The last time this happened it took Valinet a while to produce an update that fixed the issue. I still get very annoyed that MS won't give us back what we want and yet make changes that stop EP from working.
Version 22621.1413.54.5 is still working with Insider build 25324 which is wonderful. The only thing that seems to be wrong, or I have a setting incorrect, is that the tray doesn't have all the icons I have selected in Windows Settings. Minor issue as the thing I really want is text on...
There seem to be a lot of people who think the Windows 11 menu and taskbar are bad for productivity, except in Microsoft, where I wonder if they actually use Windows 11!
I completely underrstand not supporting Insider builds but EP has been working fine up to build 25247 and it is only builds since where the problem of explorer.exe crashing and nevery getting started has become so noticable. In previous builds I sometimes had to reboot to get the system running...
I have been using EP with Open Shell for a long time without any apparent problems. My current problem is one that many seem to havve found, that is with the latest insider builds EP causes explorer.exe to keep crashing so no desktop.
Thank you. I hadn't spotted there was the installable version there. Unfortunately I've just tried it with insider build 25276.rs-prerelease.230106-1334 and i still have the same problem.
To the best of my recollection, when in the state that explorer isn't running, Ctrl + Shift + Esc won't bring up the run box. Not completely sure I tried that.
When I tried to run anything from task manager I found I had to check the 'Create this task with administrator privileges'. Without that checked clicking OK did nothing.
Also, I was able run the setup directly with /uninstall so didn't need to rename it.
For the last few insider builds I had the blank screen (latest is 25267) and it took me a while to even consider that the problem was EP. I use EP to allow me to have a triple row taskbar and I am fed up with Microsoft not fixing their problem but I'm even more fed up with them breaking third...
