Not really a solution, but there is a hack for it .... Open Control Panel, click the up arrow twice and voila, explorer with ribbon.

Not really, my issue is the same, I'd like to have explorer the way it was with the old style ribbon.

One of the things I used most was a single click to automatically resize all columns to fit. Is there a way to do this in the simplified version? I can't for the life of me find it.

+1 for this. It's so annoying that they've changed to a simplified ribbon, the least they could do is give the user a choice.
