Well, I've only had if for a few weeks, and so it's under warranty. But I don't know where I'll have to take it to get it repaired / replaced! It's hard to find an actual HP centre now (everything is conducted online!)

At first I wasn't aware of the [well-hidden] shutter that closes the camera lens, but I soon discovered it. It wasn't the cause of my problems.

I've done all of this, TrebleTA. The drivers were HP drivers, but now they are no longer listed in Device Manager (after a windows reinstall and a factory reset).

Thanks to everyone who replied. I originally said I'd prefer not to have to use third-party software because I was convinced it was possibile to password protect a folder just using Windows 11. I've now managed to accomplish this using Iobit Protected Folder. Florio

My mistake - it's actually a Word file and not a folder, and it's password protected with Office

Thanks zebal, I somehow did manage to password protect a folder a few years ago (can't remember whether it was with Windows 10 or 11), and that particular folder is still protected, and so it IS possibile without third party software. I'm wondering if it was protected using Office ...
