This would appear to be quite common, in fact there are several YouTube videos and forum posts elsewhere dedicated to this problem. The light was working until the other day, and suddenly stopped - I'm not sure if it is a consequence of a recent Windows update or not, as I really didn't notice straight away. I had the same problem with my older laptop, an HP Pavilion, but managed to solve it, I think by resetting the BIOS defaults. However, I've been unable to get the light working again on my Envy laptop. Any suggestions? I think I've tried practically everything.

I'm sorry I couldn't help, at this point I would contact HP support and see what they do suggest. Good luck.

I have a HP laptop (15-dw0xxx) and have a similar issue. With my laptop, the mute button works flawlessly, but sometimes the little light does not come on. For me, to get the light to operate again, I just exercise the button, very vigorously. After a couple of hard activations, the little light starts to work again. I have replaced the keyboard twice in this laptop due to the letters wearing off (very abrasive fingers). I am guessing that, the poorly working mute light means another new keyboard. Several of the letters are almost gone again. I don't need to see them to type. My fingers know where all the keys are. But it ruins the look of the keyboard.
