  1. Java SE Runtime Environment installation error 1603

Weird issue. Any chance it might be an issue with the downloaded installer? edit: is see it happened from an update. See checksum of your installer: https://www.oracle.com/a/tech/docs/8u411checksum.html Re-download the installer and try to install from scratch after previous uninstall.
  2. The virtual machine is not compatible with physical computer

That error doesn't have many solutions, if any, from what search results give at the moment... deleting the saved state is the only solution here. You probably seen this already...
  3. have to clone a virt-manager Windows VM

Interesting, more or less like when swapping hardware, PIN errors, so something gets detected there. So that happens on the clone... Is this a VM with TPM I assume? I've not much experience with virt-clone, but yeah works pretty straightforward. There is an option to clone through virt-manager...
  4. Fedora 41 users -- enable VLC to play H264/H265/HEVC etc again

@jimbo45 @martyfelker Be careful at the moment on F41: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/red-hat-warns-of-backdoor-in-xz-tools-used-by-most-linux-distros/ Some news on XZ Utils containing a backdoor. Will probably get fixed soon but take care. EDIT: issue is in xz, version 5.6.0...
  5. Solved Ohhhh Microsoft, that was nasty

I use a Logitech G610 and also customized the lightning. A few days ago after one of the updates I got a 'good news!' popup in the notifications bar saying that now the dynamic lightning of 'my devices' can be set in settings. There was indeed the keyboard mentioned. So far I haven't noticed...
  6. OK Co-pilot has appeared but what do I do with it ???

See also tutorial on how to disable / remove Copilot: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/completely-disable-and-remove-copilot-in-windows-11.23264/ With reg files. Thanks @Brink for this! :alien:
  7. 64-bit apps in Program Files x86 directory

Exactly. In this case of Edge, the problem will have to be fixed by the developers, most likely through the installer. If by any means a new installer fixes it, then case closed. If however the new installer detects a previous installation in Program Files (x86) and decides to keep it like...
  8. 64-bit apps in Program Files x86 directory

A good question. Happened some time ago with Chrome. I read there was a bug with the installer. But now it gets it done properly. Not sure how it got fixed. I assume Edge has the same issue Chrome had, since they're both Chromium clones.
  9. Fedora 41 users -- enable VLC to play H264/H265/HEVC etc again

Thanks. That looks fine. I think I get it now. The command is one-time and will install just the needed extras from rpmfusion. Then on each update the packages will get their own updates when available. https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/Multimedia So it should enable the system VLC to get the...
  10. Does a SSD case that holds NVME drive to a SATA 3 port exist?

This may indeed work without disconnecting the battery. Just make sure you properly power off / shutdown. Check: maybe the non-removable battery could be disabled from the BIOS (power settings). Had seen this on a Lenovo Thinkpad. In this case I tried the swapping procedure also after laptop was...
  11. Fedora 41 users -- enable VLC to play H264/H265/HEVC etc again

Hi Jimbo, Thanks for posting this. Do you need to re-exclude packages with each update? Or is this permanent? I've encountered this also in F39 and Centos S9 / Alma9. Using the system codecs for now. Happened a short while ago that VLC was added to system repository, then some conflicts with...
  12. New windows 11 dualboot

If you can still boot the old system is fine, if you cannot but still have access to the drive that's also fine. Make a copy / clone / full image of your installation of Win10 with all the programs, then restore this in the VM. What worked for me so far is Macrium Reflect or Disk2Vhd.
  13. New windows 11 dualboot

May be some issue in the bootloader at dual boot. What Linux flavor(s) and version is that? The latest releases tested here all seem to support it. Running Fedora, CentOS Stream, Alma, Linux Mint here with no issues. Clonezilla live (Debian - Ubuntu) also detects secureboot and boots properly.
  14. VT-x not available

The processor is very relevant. What gen / number / model is it? The TPM is not relevant, neither is Defender. I've seen old PCs with VT-x in BIOS settings but where the CPU didn't support it; so that's a no go in a case like that.
  15. Solved How to match VLC performance in MPC-HC?

MPC-HC is what I prefer as well. Although it's long time since I used K-Lite codecs. There is a patched MPC-HC, continuing where the official builds stopped. https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc Have been using this for a while now. I have no playback issues with the built-in codecs.
