It would really help me if you could break down your instructions into smaller steps. for example, you said:
"With your Reflect X make a rescue ISO file. Set the Hyper-V VM to boot from this ISO. Choose Media > DVD Drive > Insert Disk... and browse to where you saved the rescue ISO."
1. Where...
I just read your reply. I'm going to take something for this headache, lay down for a nap and maybe try following your instructions tomorrow. Just reading them was overwhelming.
It took me awhile to capture the screen shots I wanted to post, sorry for the delay. I ran viBoot V7.
1. I was able to select the image
2. Selected the image to mount
3. Windows XP boots
4. But then I got stuck when the next screen popped up telling me that I have to activate Windows XP...
My rescue USB is built on Windows RE 11 and when I installed Macrium Reflect X last Sunday the 16th, it was version 10.0.8843.
My issue is not with being unable to boot the Rescue USB drive, it boots fine. My issue is that I can't mount a very old image file.
I tried viBoot but it won't load the old file from 2019... unless I'm doing it wrong. KB5083769 was installed back in April as your link to mounting errors describes.
The oldest backup image I have is from June 21 and was made with v8 free, so no, nothing before April.
I have Win 11 Pro and just turned on Hyper-V. I have to reboot now. I'll play around with it to see if I can figure out how to use it.
I know that thread contains workarounds, but unfortunately, no, I did not keep any old Rescue USBs.
I need to buy an old, used PC with Win XP just so I can install V6.
I figured you couldn't install 2 versions at the same time. Thanks for confirming.
Even if I uninstalled version X to install version 6, on Windows 11 I may run into the Vulnerable Driver Blocklist which blocks the Macrium psmounterex.sys file. It would be a lot of work...
Thanks for the info. Actually, I saved 2 old installation versions that I could try. The V6 would probably be best since it is an x64 version.
I still have the license for V6 one-time purchase:
Have you ever tried installing 2 versions simultaneously? Will one conflict with the other?
I've used various versions of Macrium Reflect for many years and have been very satisfied with it. I've just installed Macrium Reflect X on my 2 Windows 11 systems and it is working fine. I uninstalled the free version 8 before installing version X.
I did run into one minor problem and I...
I'll have to wait until tomorrow to try this.
While playing around with the USB drive that does boot successfully I accidentally found out that I can't mount and browse a backup file. Selecting a file assigns it the drive letter F: but I can't find/open Explorer to to browse the backup file...
I ran your code and created a new USB building a new WIM. Tried booting, but it no longer boots. I did something wrong. Whatever I did back in April, the USB drive booted correctly into Macrium. Back then I had to replace \EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi on the USB drive, I think with an older version...
Is this Macrium 8.0.7783 Free USB boot drive okay? It boots just fine but I'm wondering why I'm getting - File Version: 28000.322, SVN 8.0 in 2 places. This "wim" stuff on the last several pages of this thread is way over my head. I'm using the latest script @garlin posted in garlin's...
